Recap: Eagles Losing Skid Reaches Three Games

Drop Doubleheader To Wilmington

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University baseball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at Wilmington on Tuesday, extending its losing streak to three games. The Eagles dropped the first game, 6-0, and the second game, 6-3.
Post is now 10-11 overall and 6-3 in the CACC.
During game one, the Eagles were held to just three hits. Senior Julien Casaubon (Joliette, Quebec) had two of those hits. He was 2-for-4 on the day.
Junior Don Crook (Meriden, Conn.) picked up his first loss of the season and is now 3-1 on the season. He pitched six innings, giving up four runs on 10 hits and six walks. He struck out two.
The Wildcats scored one run in the first, fourth, fifth and sixth innings before scoring two in the seventh to account for their offense. Josh Hampton led Wilmington, going 3-for-4, with an RBI. Josh Swirchak had two hits, including a two-run double in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach.
Ray Gambone picked up the win for the Wildcats, pitching seven innings, giving up three hits, walking three and striking out five.
Offensively, game two fared a little bit better for the Eagles in the loss.
After Wilmington (18-4-1, 8-2 CACC) scored a run on a Hampton ground out in the bottom of the first, senior Jeff St. Pierre (Milford, Conn.) hit a single down the line to score senior Marcel Chavez (Los Angeles, Calif.) to tie the game at one apiece in the top of the second.
The teams remained scoreless for the third and fourth innings before Wilmington opened up the scoring with four runs in the fifth as Hampton hit a two-run single. Mike Jerminski then attempted a sacrifice bunt that was thrown away, allowing two runs to score. The Eagles committed two throwing errors in the inning, leading to two unearned runs.
Post would attempt a comeback in the top of the sixth as sophomore Eduardo Familia (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) singled to drive in Casaubon and St. Pierre reached on a throwing error allowing Familia to score. The rally would fall short as senior Ian Ratchford (Danbury, Conn.) grounded out to second base with runners on second and third base to end the inning.
Senior Matt Cambria (Toronto, Ontario) pitched a complete game, giving up six runs - four earned -on seven hits. He walked none and struck out three. He is now 2-2 on the season.
Frank Samluk (3-0) got the win, pitching 5.2 innings, giving up three runs - two earned - on six hits and one walk. He struck out eight.
Up next for Post is a home game at Rogers Park in Danbury, Conn. as it takes on the University of Bridgeport in an out-of-conference, in-state matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
