Box Score 2 CALDWELL, N.J. – The Post University softball team snapped #14 Caldwell's 19-game winning streak by taking game two of Sunday afternoon's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader. The Cougars took the first game, 13-4 in six innings, but the Eagles held on to win the second game, 3-2. Freshman
Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) was a perfect 5-for-5 from the plate on the day with three doubles.
Game One – Caldwell 13, Post 4 Caldwell set the tone early in the first game and scored five runs in the first inning. Despite falling behind by five runs, Post rallied to make things interesting. Senior
Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) drove in Ragazzone with a double to right center to put Post on the board in the second inning.
After the Cougars went up 6-1, redshirt freshman
Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) hit an RBI double to make it a four run game in the third. Then sophomore
Kaitlin Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) tightened the score at 6-4 with a single that brought in both Ragazzone and Kresley.
However, Caldwell scored at least one run in each of the six innings capped off by a three-run homerun by Kristen Knorr in the sixth, ending the game with the score 13-4. Ragazzone (2-3) didn't have as much success on the mound as she did at the plate and gave up eight earned runs on 12 hits in three innings.
Game Two – Post 3, Caldwell 2 The Eagles were led by junior right-hander
Kaitlin Derby (Douglaston, N.Y.) who pitched a gem for Post. Derby (4-3) went all seven innings giving up just two earned runs on six hits. The Cougars were held scoreless for the first six innings.
Ragazzone scored her third run of the day when Udris ripped a single down the right field line. Senior
Casey Sclafani (Brooklyn, N.Y.) brought in Udris with a single and came around to score when fellow senior
Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) reached on an error to go up 3-0.
Caldwell scored two runs with the bases loaded in the final inning, but Derby got out of the jam to hand the Cougars their second loss of the season, 3-2. Udris picked up four hits in total between the two games. It was the first loss for Caldwell since dropping its season opener to Wayne State on March 14.
On Deck: Post (10-13, 6-4 CACC) will visit Mercy College on Monday, April 7 for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
