Box Score 2 YAPHANK, N.Y. – A walk-off two-run home run by senior
Julien Casaubon (Jiolette, Quebec) in the 10
th inning of game two gave the Post University baseball team a doubleheader sweep over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Dominican on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles have won seven games in a row and improve to 6-0 in CACC play for the first time in program history.
Game One: Post 5, Dominican 2Junior
Dylan Pastor (Hewlett, N.Y.) crushed a two-run home run in the second inning to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead and they would not look back on their way to victory. Post fell behind in the top of the inning after Tyler Clark hit a lead-off double and later came home on a groundout by Leonardo Bravo.
Seniors
Zach Brecht (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and
Marcel Chavez (Los Angeles, Calif.) each singled to start the third. Brecht scored on an error by the pitcher. Senior
Alex Beland (Trois-Riviere, Quebec) hit a two-run bomb to put the Eagles in front 5-1 after three. Clark doubled in the final run for the Chargers in the sixth.
Junior
Don Crook (Meriden, Conn.) threw his second complete game of the year to earn his team-leading third victory. Crook gave up just two hits and struck out five. Brecht and Pastor each finished with two hits on the day.
Game Two: Post 2, Dominican 0, F/10Chavez drew a walk with one out in the 10
th inning. After a strikeout, Casaubon came up and launched a two-run home run to give the Eagles the victory. Freshman
Evan Devico (Waterbury, Conn.) pitch three scoreless innings in relief allowing just one hit and striking out four to earn his first-career victory.
Post loaded the bases in the third inning after two batters were hit by a pitch and an error, but a strikeout ended the threat. Senior
Matt Cambria (Toronto, Ontario) pitched out of a jam in the sixth inning. The first two Chargers singled and a sacrifice bunt moved both into scoring position with just one out. Cambria struck out Luis Paniagua and Donald Crispyn grounded out to end the inning.
Sophomore
Brian McKenna (New York, N.Y.) drew a walk and later advanced to third on a base hit by Brecht to put runners on second and third with two outs in the seventh but another strikeout stranded the runners. The Eagles struck out 20 times in the second game, starter Ryan Calby fanned 18 batters for Dominican.
Crispyn doubled for the Chargers in the ninth and the next batter Alex Lorenzo was hit by a pitch to put two on with one out. Jonathan Martinez lined into a double play to end the inning.
The seven victories in a row is the most for Post since 2009 when it won 10 games in a row, the longest winning streak in school history. The Eagles have already matched last year's CACC win total of six.
Post will be back in action on Saturday, April 5 against Nyack. First pitch is set for noon.
