Box Score 2 Danbury, Conn. - The Post University Eagles pitching staff threw two complete games in a big doubleheader sweep -- 5-3 and 4-1 -- over the Chestnut Hill Griffins at Rogers Park. It was the final two home games of the season for Post.
The Eagles now stand at 15-19-1 overall and 9-9 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The wins also snapped a five game losing streak. Post is now tied for sixth place in the CACC.
Junior
Don Crook (Meriden, Conn.) starred in the first game, pitching a complete game giving up three runs - all earned - on 10 hits and three walks while striking out 10. He gave up runs in the first, third and fourth innings. Crook is now 5-1 on the season.
All the Eagles needed on offense was the third inning, scoring all five of their runs in the frame. Senior
Julien Casaubon (Joliette, Quebec) hit a two run single to center before senior
Alex Beland (Trois-Riviere, Quebec) followed with a three-run homer - his fourth of the season - to give the Eagles the lead for good.
The Eagles managed just five hits on the day, but also drew five walks.
Game two was another dominating performance on the mound as freshman
Evan Devico (Waterbury, Conn.) struck out eight, giving up one earned run on seven hits and three walks. He gave up his lone run in the top of the fourth as Brendan Looby hit a solo homer to left field.
Post scored its offense in the second and third innings as senior
Marcel Chavez (Los Angeles, Calif) doubled to drive in sophomore
Eduardo Familia (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) to five the Eagles a 1-0 lead at the time.
The Eagles would add three more runs in the bottom of the fourth as senior
Mike Shada (Holtsville, N.Y.) belted his fifth homer of the season, a three-run shot.
Post had nine hits in the game. Senior
Zach Brecht (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) was 2-for-2 with a run scored. Familia and Chavez also had two hits.
Up next for the Eagles are their final two regular season games of the season, as it takes on Concordia in a doubleheader in Bronxville, N.Y. on April 30. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
