Eagles to Battle for CACC Tourney Positioning in Final Stretch

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University softball team will wrap up regular season play with three doubleheaders against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponents. The Eagles (19-17, 15-5 CACC) have already clinched a spot in the CACC Tournament. Post is currently in second place in the conference and has a shot to claim a high seed in this year's tournament.
 
First up for the Eagles this week will be a visit to Wilmington on Tuesday, April 22 with first pitch set for 11 a.m. Then Senior Day will take place on Saturday, April 26 at 1 p.m. at LaMoy Field. Post will travel to Concordia on Monday, April 28 for its final regular season doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.

Junior Kaitlin Derby (Douglaston, N.Y.) pitched complete games in both victories and was in quite a groove on the mound all day. Derby (9-3) gave up just one run in total and had a combined six strikeouts.
 
Redshirt freshman Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) hit her sixth homerun of the season with a two-run bomb to left field in first game. Senior Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored three runs in game two and extended her hitting streak to six games.
 
Scouting the Competition:
Wilmington is right behind Post in the CACC standings currently sitting in third place at 13-5 in the conference. The Wildcats are 21-17 overall and are currently riding a six-game winning streak. Pitcher Stephanie Sarris is in the top three in the conference in ERA (1.92), wins (10) and strikeouts (86).
 
Although USciences has not had a very good season, the Devils have won four games in a row. USciences is 10-22 overall and 9-13 in the CACC. The Devils have not done very well on the road this season posting a 2-6 record away from home. Ashley Lewis leads the team with a .362 batting average.
 
It's been a tough season so far for Concordia. The Clippers are 5-18 overall and 4-14 in the CACC. Concordia has only played two home games, sweeping Holy Family on Saturday, April 19. Victoria Vickerman has a team-high .360 batting average.
 
All-Time Series…:
With Wilmington: Overall, Post and Wilmington have split the all-time series with 13 wins apiece. The Eagles' last win over the Wildcats came in the 2012 CACC Tournament.

With Concordia: Post has won its last five games against Concordia including two shutout victories a season ago. The Eagles lost the four games prior but still lead the series, 5-4 overall.

Eagles among Leaders:
Redshirt freshman Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) is tied for fourth in the CACC with six homeruns and 12th in RBI with 25. Junior pitcher Kaitlin Derby (Douglaston, N.Y.) is tied for sixth in the conference with nine wins and is in 10th with a 2.54 ERA. Freshman Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) is eighth in the CACC in slugging percentage at .650 and tied for ninth with 11 doubles. Freshman Kristen Owens (Exton, Pa.) and senior Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) are tied for seventh in the CACC with 10 steals each.
 
Preseason Prognostications:
The Eagles were selected to finish ninth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Preseason Poll as announced by the conference office on Monday, Feb. 4. The Eagles received 85 points in the poll. Defending conference champion Caldwell garnered 12 out of the 14 possible first-place votes to earn the top stop in the poll. Dominican received the other two first-place votes and earned the second spot.
 
Senior Leadership:
The Eagles return six seniors in 2014, all of whom made at least 31 starts a season ago. All five of Post's top hitters in 2013 are back for their senior campaigns. Seniors Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Rebecca Erb (Yardley, Pa.) both led Post with a .315 batting average last season. Fellow senior Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) led the Eagles with six homeruns and 31 RBI in 2013.
