Preview: Eagles Look To Close Out Season Strong

Five Games Against CACC Teams Could Determine Playoff Fate



Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University baseball team will have a packed scheduled this week with six games on the slate. Four of which will be against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponents.

The Eagles are coming off a doubleheader split against Philadelphia on April 19. Post won the first game, 4-2, but dropped the second game, 3-1.  Senior Eduardo Familia (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) hit a two-run triple in game one to give the Eagles the lead for good.

The Eagles currently sit at 13-15-1 overall, and 7-6 in CACC play.

Leading The Way
Senior Julien Casaubon (Joliette, Quebec) has the top spot in the CACC as the home run king this season with six. Senior Mike Shada (Holtsville, N.Y.) is third in the conference with four.

Junior Don Crook (4-1) is 10th in the CACC in strikeouts, with 42.

About Nyack
On April 21, the Eagles take on CACC foe, Nyack at Rogers Park in Danbury, Conn. at 3 p.m. The teams met during the early stages of the season in Ft. Pierce, Fla., where the Eagles won, 9-2 on March 5. Senior Zach Brecht (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) was 3-for-5 on the day, driving in two runs. The Eagles scored six runs in the top of the first.
Nyack is currently 18-14 overall and 10-3 in the CACC. John Kennedy is ninth in the CACC in batting average at .344. He is also second in stolen bases with 18.

Setting The Pace
On April 22 at 3:30 p.m., the Eagles will take on Pace in an out-of-conference game in New York. Pace is currently 10-18 overall and 5-13 in the Northeast-10 conference. They are coming off of a doubleheader split against St. Rose on April 19. Pace won the first game, 4-1, before dropping the second game, 10-7. Post and Pace have played just once, with Post winning, 3-2 during the 2011 season.

David Pepe is one of  the team's leading offensive threat, with a .382 on-base percentage. James Pjura leads the team with three home runs and 21 RBI.

Field Day
On April 24, the Eagles will play a CACC doubleheader at Bloomfield, beginning at noon. The teams are close to even in their all-time head-to-head matchup with Bloomfield holding a slight 23-20 lead over the Eagles. The teams split a doubleheader last season as Post won the second game of the doubleheader - and final game of the season - 5-1.
 
The Deacons are currently sitting eighth in the conference at 8-20 overall and 7-9 in the CACC. In their most recent games, they were swept by AIC (7-6, 3-2) in a non-conference matchup. Juan Hilario leads the Deacons with a .402 on-base percentage, including 19 walks, which also leads the team. Carlos Flete leads the Deacons in RBI with 12.

Climbing The Hill
Chestnut Hill will be the last home opponent for the Eagles this season as it comes to Rogers Field in Danbury on April 26 at noon. 

Chestnut Hill is fourth in the CACC at 14-15 overall and 10-6 in the CACC. Brendan Looby and Preston Koehler both lead the team with two home runs. Robert Slagle III leads the team with a .420 on-base percentage.
