Recap: Eagles Lose Heartbreaker to Nyack

Beland Hits Grand Slam For Eagles

Box Score

Waterbury, Conn. – Despite scoring four runs in the first inning to open the game, the Post University Eagles baseball team lost, 9-8 to Nyack in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup at Rogers Field in Danbury, Conn. It was the second consecutive loss for the Eagles.

Post currently sits at 13-16-1 overall and 7-7 in the CACC.

After giving up a home run to Nyack's (19-14, 11-3 CACC) John Kennedy in the top of the first, senior Alex Beland (Trois-Riviere, Quebec) responded with a grand slam to left centerfield to give the Eagles a 4-1 lead.

Nyack crept back with a run in both the second and third inning, before junior Dylan Pastor (Hewlett, N.Y.) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and drove in senior Julien Casaubon (Joliette, Quebec). Senior Marcel Chavez (Los Angeles, Calif.) then singled home Beland to make it a 6-3 game.

After a solo home run by Nyack's Dylan Schantz in the top of the fourth inning, Casaubon delivered with a two-run double in the bottom of the inning, making it an 8-4 Eagles lead.

However, the lead wouldn't last, as Ryan Kahl of Nyack had the game of his life, hitting a two run homer in the top of the seventh inning off of freshman starter, Evan Devico (Waterbury, Conn.) to make it an 8-6 game, then hitting a three-run shot off of sophomore Mick Terzi (Wallingford, Conn.) to make give Nyack a 9-8 lead that it wouldn't relinquish.

Devico finished his afternoon pitching 6.1 innings, giving up six runs – five earned – on 10 hits, four walks, while striking out three.

Up next for the Eagles is an out-of-conference game at Pace in New York on April 22. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
