Recap: Eagles Use Long Ball To Oust Owls

Withstand Rally In Ninth

Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University Eagles used the long ball to their advantage, then withstood a ninth inning rally to hold off Southern Connecticut State University, 8-7 at Rogers Field in Danbury on Friday afternoon in a non-conference matchup.

The Eagles now stand at 12-14-1 for the season and 6-5 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).

Senior Alex Beland (Trois-Riviere, Quebec) and Julien Casaubon were the stars of the show. Beland went 3-for-3, with three RBI and two runs scored. He hit a solo homer in the fourth inning to tie the game, 2-2. He hit an RBI single in the first inning that tied the game, 1-1.

Casaubon hit two homers in the game, a two run shot in the fifth inning, and a solo shot to right center in the seventh. He now has a team-leading six home runs on the year.

Senior Zach Brecht (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) hit a two-run double in the fourth inning to give the Eagles the lead for good in the fourth inning.

After leading, 8-2, the Owls (15-12-1) stormed back with a run in the eighth inning, and then four more in the ninth. They had the bases loaded with one out in the inning, but failed to score  after sophomore Ethan Szabo (Bridgeport, Conn.) forced two infield pop outs to end the game. Szabo got the save in the game, his first.

Glenn Marrus (Meriden, Conn.) earned the win in relief, pitching three innings, striking out three and walking three, with no runs given up. He is 1-0 on the season. Freshman Joseph Enderle (Hicksville, N.Y.) started the game, throwing four innings, giving up four hits, two runs (one earned), while striking out three.

Up next for the Eagles is a CACC doubleheader at Philadelphia on April 19. First pitch is slated for noon.
