Box Score 2 LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Post University softball team swept its second consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent by taking down Felician on Thursday afternoon. The Eagles took game one, 7-3, and game two, 11-4, while racking up a combined 21 hits. The sweep puts Post into fourth place in the CACC with a 10-4 conference record.
Game One – Post 7, Felician 3 Post came out firing in the opening game scoring four runs in the first inning. Seniors
Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) and
Rebecca Erb (Yardley, Pa.) gave Post a 2-0 lead with a pair of RBI singles in the first. Both Erb and DeMartino then scored when fellow senior
Casey Sclafani (Brooklyn, N.Y.) reached on an error.
The Eagles took a 5-0 lead in the third inning when Erb hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in freshman
Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.). Felician made things interesting in the fifth inning by cutting the deficit to two by adding three runs.
However, Post solidified the victory in the seventh as redshirt freshman
Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) picked up an RBI with a fielder's choice and then scored the game's final run on an RBI single hit by senior
Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.). Junior
Kaitlin Derby (Douglaston, N.Y.) went all seven innings and gave up just four hits and three runs as she improves to 5-3 on the season.
Game Two – Post 11, Felician 4 The Eagles kept the offensive attack rolling in the second game as well. Erb continued her success at the plate with a two-run single to center in the first. After Felician scored a run in the bottom of the first, the Golden Falcons committed two huge errors in the second. DeMartino reached on an error which brought in two runs for Post and soon after, the Eagles added another run as Ragazzone also reached on an error.
With Post on top 5-1, Felician kept the pressure on, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. The Eagles immediately answered in the third as Udris hit an RBI single up the middle. Then sophomore
Kaitlin Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) picked up an RBI as Udris crossed the plate and Ragazzone hit an RBI single to center to give Post an 8-3 lead.
Udris scored her third run of the game on a sacrifice fly hit by freshman
Jessica Grzywna (Philadelphia, Pa.) in the fourth. Felician added one run in the fourth, but the Eagles blew things open in the fifth. Ragazzone scored on a single by Kresley and Sclafani hit an RBI single to make it 11-4. Ragazzone (3-3) also pitched well as she held Felician to only one run in five innings of work.
Between both games, Udris had four hits and Erb recorded four RBI. Senior
Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) and freshman
Kristen Owens (Exton, Pa.) combined for six runs, six walks and five hits on the day. Ragazzone had three hits in total including a double and a triple.
On Deck: Next up for Post (14-14, 10-4 CACC) is a trip to Georgian Court on Friday, April 11 for a 2:30 doubleheader.
