Recap: Pioneers Rout Eagles

Give Up 17 In Fifth

. - The Post University Eagles gave up 17 runs in the fifth inning, which was enough to drop a 21-3 game to LIU Post in Palm Beach, Fla. on Friday afternoon.

Post jumped on the scoreboard early after senior Mike Shada (Holtsville, N.Y.) scored on an error in the bottom of the first inning.

Things were going fine for freshman Joseph Enderle (Hicksville, N.Y.) as he pitched scoreless ball for the first four innings of the game. However, the wheels came off in the fifth after Enderle got the second batter out of the inning. Eight singles, nine walks and two doubles later, the Eagles found themselves down 17-1 going into the bottom of the inning. Enderle (0-2) pitched 4.1 innings, giving up seven runs, striking out two and walking two and giving up 11 hits. LIU Post (1-0) would add four more runs in the ninth.

Casey McKay finished the day 4-for-5 with four RBI and four runs scored for the Pioneers. Joey Arena finished 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Rick Alessi finished 3-for-5 with five RBI and four runs scored.

The Eagles (2-6) would score one in the bottom of the fifth on a Kevin Fearon (Williston, N.Y.) groundout and again in the bottom of the ninth on a sac fly from Shada. Freshman Nick Grasso (Wyckoff, N.J.) picked up most of the mop-up duty in relief, pitching 4.1 innings, giving up four runs on four hits and striking out two.
