Eagles Drop Doubleheader to SCSU, Cedarville

Post Loses Pair of Close Battles at NTC Spring Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Clermont, Fla. – The Post University softball team dropped a pair of close games on Wednesday afternoon, 5-3 to Southern Connecticut State and 4-3 to Cedarville (Ohio). The Eagles have now lost five in a row after winning two of their first three games of the season.

Game One – Southern Conn. 5, Post 3
Post got on the board first with a fielder's choice by senior shortstop Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) that brought home freshman Natalie Lennox (Landenberg, Pa.). SCSU then scored three runs in the third inning and tacked on two more in the fifth to take control, 5-1.

The Eagles made some costly errors in the third and fifth innings leading to three unearned runs for the Owls. Udris and senior Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) each had RBI singles in the bottom of the fifth, but the comeback fell just short.

Lennox hit her first career triple and scored twice, and Bonamassa was 2-for-4 for the Eagles. Freshman Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) received the loss, and junior Kaitlin Derby (Douglaston, N.Y.) threw two scoreless innings. Ragazzone (1-2) only gave up one hit and tallied four strikeouts in five innings.

Game Two – Cedarville (Ohio) 4, Post 3 (F/8)
Just like the first game, the Eagles got off to a 1-0 lead as senior Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) drove home Lennox in the top of the first. Cedarville responded with a two-run third inning to take a 2-1 lead.

Freshman Kathryn Dawson (Newfields, N.H.) evened the score at two with an RBI single in the sixth inning. Redshirt freshman Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) gave Post a 3-2 lead in the extra frame with an RBI single, but Kelsey Chapman tied it up with a triple and then scored the game-winning run for the Yellow Jackets on a single in the eighth.

Sophomore Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) went all 7.1 innings for Post and was handed the loss. Esque (1-2) gave up just one earned run and had three strikeouts.

On Deck: The Eagles will play their final two games of the NTC Spring Games with a doubleheader against Findlay and Queens on Thursday, March 6 beginning at 9 a.m.
