Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University Eagles (1-5) baseball team dropped a 21-5 game to University of Mary on Wednesday afternoon in Ft. Pierce, Fla. as the Eagles looked to capitalize on their win over Rochester College on the previous day.
The Marauders scored one run in the top of the second before the Eagles answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the third after junior Dylan Pastor (Hewlett, N.Y.) scored on a balk.
University of Mary would open the floodgates in the middle innings off of starter Evan Devico (Waterbury, Conn.), scoring four runs in the fifth and sixth innings and three runs in the seventh. Devico would finish his outing with 5 2/3 innings pitched, giving up nine earned runs and striking out two. He is 0-2 on the season.
With the game never in doubt, the Marauders tacked on nine more runs in the top of the ninth to put the game completely out of reach. Jacon Shaul finished 2-for-5 with five RBI. Austin Grundstad was 3-for-6 with four RBI for the Marauders.
The Eagles bats came alive in the middle innings as well they scored one run in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh. In that span, senior Kevin Fearon (Williston Park, N.Y.) scored two runs. He also had three hits on the day. Senior Marcel Chavez (Los Angeles, Calif) drove in Fearon both times; with a single in the fifth, and a sac fly in the seventh. Julien Casaubon (Jiolette, Quebec) also finished with two hits for the Eagles. As a team, Post finished with 11 hits.
