Box Score 2 WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University softball team improved to 5-1 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) by splitting Thursday afternoon's doubleheader against Dominican. The Eagles dropped a tough one in game one, 7-5 in nine innings, but Post bounced back with a 10-7 comeback win in the latter game. Post combined for 23 hits between the two games.
Game One – Dominican 7, Post 5 F/9 Sophomore
Kaitlin Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) had a strong performance for the Eagles and put up the first run of the day with a double that brought home senior
Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) in the second inning. Kimberly Ragazzo then put Dominican on top in the third inning with a three-run homerun.
Freshman
Natalie Lennox (Landenberg, Pa.) scored her first of three runs on the day in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly hit by senior
Casey Sclafani (Brooklyn, N.Y.). Two batters later, senior
Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) tied up the game at three after Udris reached base on an error. Post had multiple opportunities to win the game but could not capitalize.
Dominican scored four runs in the ninth to go ahead 7-3. Iacomini hit an RBI double and senior
Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) drove home Iacomini with a double in the bottom of the ninth, but Post came up just short. DeMartino was 3-for-5 and junior
Kaitlin Derby (Douglaston, N.Y.) gave up five earned runs in eight innings on the mound for Post.
Game Two – Post 10, Dominican 7 It was an offensive slugfest in game two with both teams combining for 25 hits. Ragazzo put the Chargers on top 1-0 in the first, but the Eagles responded immediately. Freshman
Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) drove in Lennox with a double and then came around to score when Udris reached on an error in the bottom of the first to make it 2-1.
After Dominican took a 5-2 lead in the third, Post exploded for five runs in the fourth inning. Iacomini hit an RBI single and Bonamassa drove her home with a sacrifice fly to right field. Post regained the lead at 6-5 when DeMartino hit a double that brought home two Eagles. Udris knocked in DeMartino with an RBI double before rounding the bases to put Post up 8-5 after redshirt freshman
Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) reached on an error.
The Chargers added two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make it a one run game, but freshman
Kathryn Dawson (Newfields, N.H.) came through with a huge two-run single in the bottom of the sixth to solidify the 10-7 victory for the Eagles. Dawson went 3-for-4 in the second game and Iacomini had four hits on the day. Sophomore
Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) picked up her third win of the season giving up five hits and one earned run in 4.2 innings.
On Deck: Post (8-9, 5-1 CACC) will hit the road for the next seven games. The Eagles will travel to Wilmington next on Saturday, March 29 for a noon doubleheader.
