PREVIEW: CACC-Leading Eagles Look to Extend Winning Streak

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University softball team looks to extend its four-game winning streak with a slew of games this week. Currently sitting in first in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), the Eagles will play four doubleheaders this week, two of which will be at LaMoy Field.

Post will welcome #23 Southern New Hampshire on Tuesday, March 25 with first pitch set for 1:30 p.m. Dominican will then come to LaMoy Field on Thursday, March 27 at 2:30 p.m. The Eagles will then spend the weekend on the road with games at Wilmington (Saturday, March 29 at noon) and at Felician on Sunday, March 30 also at noon.

Senior Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) hit the game-winning homerun in game one to lead Post to a thrilling 7-5 victory over Chestnut Hill. Sophomore Kaitlin Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) went 2-for-3, drove in two runs and scored twice for the Eagles.

The Eagles racked up nine hits and eight walks in the second game. Udris was 3-for-4 scoring two runs and fellow senior Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Freshman Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) pitched four scoreless innings and also drove in two runs at the plate.

Scouting the Competition:
Northeast-10 member #23 Southern New Hampshire has gotten off to a strong start in 2014 but has lost its last two games, dropping a 10-inning battle to Saginaw Valley last. The Penmen are 9-3 so far and have yet to play a true road game up to this point. Lindsay Bolduc leads SNHU with a .371 batting average and 16 RBI.

Dominican has struggled early on with an overall record of 2-10. The Lady Chargers are 0-4 in road games this season and are currently on a five game losing streak. Kimberly Ragazzo posts a team-best .447 on base percentage.

Wilmington is currently 8-12 on the season and 2-0 in the CACC. The Wildcats split a doubleheader with Bloomsburg the last time out. Wilmington's Kelsey Doherty is eighth in the CACC with a .458 batting average and her nine RBI are good for second in the conference.

Felician is 6-11 on the season and was swept by Philadelphia it its last appearance. The Golden Falcons are 0-4 in the CACC but have a 2-0 home record. Ciera Clark leads the CACC with five homeruns and is third with a .511 batting average.

With SNHU: Post has never beaten Southern New Hampshire (0-5 all-time). The penmen topped the Eagles 2-1 last season.

With Dominican: The Eagles have had some serious problems with the Lady Chargers in recent years. Post is 9-20 all-time against Dominican but has only come away victorious just one time over the past five seasons.

With Felician:
Post and Felician have nearly split the all-time series as the Eagles are 13-14 against the Golden Falcons overall. Felician swept the series last season, but Post topped the Golden Falcons 11-8 in the 2012 CACC Tournament.

Eagles among Leaders:
Both Erica Ragazzone and junior Kaitlin Derby (Douglaston, N.Y.) are currently among the CACC's best in earned run average. Ragazzone (1.22 ERA) and Derby (1.29 ERA) are fourth and fifth in the conference, respecitively. Sophomore Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) is 10th in the conference with 23 strikeouts so far in 2014. Freshman Kristen Owens (Exton, Pa.) is fifth in the CACC with six stolen bases and senior Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) is right behind her in seventh with five steals.

Preseason Prognostications:
The Eagles were selected to finish ninth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Preseason Poll as announced by the conference office on Monday, Feb. 4. The Eagles received 85 points in the poll. Defending conference champion Caldwell garnered 12 out of the 14 possible first-place votes to earn the top stop in the poll. Dominican received the other two first-place votes and earned the second spot.

Senior Leadership:
The Eagles return six seniors in 2014, all of whom made at least 31 starts a season ago. All five of Post's top hitters in 2013 are back for their senior campaigns. Seniors Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Rebecca Erb (Yardley, Pa.) both led Post with a .315 batting average last season. Fellow senior Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) led the Eagles with six homeruns and 31 RBIs in 2013.
