WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University softball team picked up its second consecutive sweep over a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent by taking care of business against Chestnut Hill on Sunday afternoon. Senior
Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) crushed a game-winning two-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh to give Post a 7-5 victory in the first game. The Eagles then used a hot start in the second game to take the win, 9-3.
Game One – Post 7, Chestnut Hill 5
Chestnut Hill got on the board first after Courtney Dayter hit a two-run homer in the second inning. The following inning, freshman
Kristen Owens (Exton, Pa.) scored the first run for Post on a passed ball. A single by Dayter gave the Griffins a two-run lead, but the Eagles quickly answered.
Sophomore
Kaitlin Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) knocked in a run with a single in the fourth and scored the game-tying run when Owens stole second two batters later. With the score knotted at 3-3, Iacomini came through big again for Post with an RBI double in the sixth. Iacomini would come around to score when freshman
Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) drew a bases-loaded walk.
The Griffins kept the game going by adding a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to make it five all. With the game on the line, Udris drove home senior
Casey Sclafani (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with a two-run shot in the bottom of the seventh, her first homerun of the season. Sophomore pitcher
Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) picked up her second win of the season for Post.
Game Two – Post 9, Chestnut Hill 3
After Chestnut Hill took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Post scored three runs in the second and four more in the third. With the bases loaded, senior
Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) walked to bring Iacomini home. The next batter, senior
Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) was then hit by a pitch with the bases juiced to give Post its second run. Sclafani followed that up with an RBI single to tie the game 3-3.
In the third, Udris scored on an error and Ragazzone hit an RBI double to give Post a 5-1 lead. The Eagles continued to pour it on in the third with an RBI single by DeMartino and another RBI for Sclafani. Laura Eidam hit a two-run homer for the Griffins in the fourth before the Eagles tacked on two more runs. Redshirt freshman
Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) drove in Owens with a sacrifice fly and Ragazzone brought Udris home with a single in the sixth to make it 9-3.
Freshman
Karoline Prevost (Fall River, Mass.) notched her first win of the season giving up three runs in three innings. In addition to going 2-for- with 2 RBI from the plate, Ragazzone also pitched four innings of one-hit ball in relief. Udris was 5-for-8 on the day and Owens incredibly stole five bases for Post.
On Deck: Post (6-7, 4-0 CACC) will play its third straight home game on Tuesday, March 25 as the Eagles will welcome Southern New Hampshire for a doubleheader. First pitch will be at 1:30 p.m.
