WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University softball team swept Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Goldey-Beacom Friday afternoon with a 5-2 victory followed by a dominant 8-2 win in its home opener. Senior Rebecca Erb (Yardley, Pa.) drove in four runs and hit her first homerun of the season. Redshirt freshman Kayla Kresley (Alburtis, Pa.) also homered for the Eagles.

Game One – Post 5, Goldey-Beacom 2

Senior catcher Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) got Post going early with an RBI double in the first inning. Two batters later, Erb brought DeMartino home with a two-run bomb to give the Eagles a 3-0 edge.

After Goldey-Beacom brought the score to 3-1, freshman Natalie Lennox (Landenberg, Pa.) hit a single that drove home sophomore Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.). Sophomore Kaitlin Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) then scored on a GBC error to put the Eagles up 5-2.

Lennox went 2-for-3, stole two bases and scored a run for Post. Junior pitcher Kaitlin Derby (Douglaston, N.Y.) picked up her first win of the season striking out four and giving up four hits in five innings. Esque notched her first save of the season giving up no runs and striking out three in two innings of relief.

Game Two – Post 8, Goldey-Beacom 2

The second game got off to a slow start with the first runs not coming until the fourth inning. Asia Ellis hit a two-run homerun to give the Lightning a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth, but Post immediately answered. Goldey-Beacom committed two crucial errors in the bottom of the inning which would lead to a whopping six runs for the Eagles.

Senior Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) and freshman Erica Ragazzone (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored the first two runs for Post to tie the game up. DeMartino picked up her second and third RBI of the day with a single in the fourth, and Erb ripped a double down the leftfield line to drive in two more to make it 6-2.

Kresley put the game away for good with a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Senior Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) picked up a pair of hits and stole two bases in the second game, totaling an impressive three stolen bases on the day. Ragazzone (2-2) notched the win for Post giving up only one hit in 3.2 innings.

On Deck: The Eagles (4-7, 2-0 CACC) will welcome CACC rival Chestnut Hill to LaMoy Field on Sunday, March 23 for a noon doubleheader.
