Recap: Eagles Sweep Doubleheader

Casaubon Plays Big Roll In Both Games

Box Score

Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University baseball team got off on the right track in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play and swept USciences in a doubleheader in Yaphank, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles (5-8, 2-0 CACC) won the first game, 10-4, and won the second game , 3-1.

During the first game, senior Julien Casaubon (Joilette, Quebec) set the pace early on with a solo home run to right field, putting the Eagles up, 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning. Post would tack on two more runs in the inning, thanks to a two run homer by sophomore Eduardo Familia (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic).

After USciences scored a run in the top of the third, the Eagles answered with an RBI single by Casaubon and a sac fly by senior Alex Beland (Trois-Riviere, Quebec), putting the Eagles up, 5-1, which would be a lead they would never relinquish.

The Eagles took advantage with the long ball again in the seventh inning as senior Mike Shada (Holtsville, N.Y.) hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to put the Eagles up, 7-4.

The Eagles tacked on three more runs, thanks to an RBI single by Jeff St. Pierre (Milford, Conn.) and Shada.

Jackson Geary (Wakefield, R.I.) picked up his first win of the season. He pitched five innings, giving up just two runs and striking out five.

In game two, Casaubon and Shada played big rolls again as Casaubon's RBI single in the first and Shada's solo home run in the third was enough to give the Eagles a 3-1 win in the second game of the doubleheader.

Senior Marcel Chavez (Los Angeles, Calif) also got in on the action, as he belted his first home run of the season; a solo shot to right-center field.

Senior Matt Cambria (Toronto, Ontario) picked up his first win of the season after pitching a solid six innings, giving up just one earned run on five hits. He had one strikeout and walked four.

Right-handed sophomore Mick Terzi (Wallingford, Conn.) got the save, striking out the side in the ninth inning.

Up next for the Eagles is a doubleheader at Concordia on March 19. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
