Preview: Eagles To Play First Conference Game

Shada Among League Leaders

Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University baseball team will play its first home game - well sort of - this season as it takes on University of the Sciences in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup in Yaphank, N.Y. at 4:30 p.m. It will be the first conference game of the season for the Eagles.

The Eagles (3-8) are coming off of their Spring Break Trip where they went 3-5 in sunny Florida. In their most recent games, they split a doubleheader with University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in two pitchers duels. The Eagles won the first game, 2-1, and dropped the second, 1-0.

Senior Jackson Geary (Wakefield, R.I.) was the star of the 2-1 win, pitching six innings and striking out two. Sophomore Mick Terzi (Wallingford, Conn.) picked up his team-high second victory of the season with three strikeouts over two scoreless innings of relief. With the game tied, 1-1, senior Jeff St. Pierre (Milford, Conn.) hit a single, which drove in senior Alex Beland (Trois-Riviere, Quebec) in the bottom of the sixth to put the Eagles ahead for good.

Senior Mike Shada (Holtsville, N.Y.) leads the team in hits thus far with 12 hits on the season and is sixth in batting average in the CACC, hitting at a .364 clip. He is also tops on the team in runs batted in as well, with 11, putting him in third in that category in the conference. Shada has also belted two home runs on the season early on.

Senior Julien Casaubon (Joliette, Quebec) has 11 hits on the season.

The Eagles currently are eighth in the CACC standings.

USciences currently sits 10th in the CACC with a 1-9 record, and has lost its last nine games. Matt Miniconzi and Mike Pollastrelli both lead the team with eight hits on the season. Pollastrelli also has a home run on the season.
