Eagles Split Doubleheader

Great Pitching In Both Games

Box Score

Waterbury, Conn. -
The Post University baseball team split a doubleheader - with both games being pitcher's duels - with the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown on Sunday afternoon in Fort Pierce, Florida.

The Eagles (3-8) won the first game, 2-1 thanks to five innings of outstanding pitching from senior Jackson Geary (Wakefield, R.I.) who struck out two and walked two, giving up just one unearned run.

After giving up a run in the first, the Eagles were able to get on the board in the bottom of the third on a senior Mike Shada (Holtsville, N.Y.) sacrifice fly, which scored freshman Drew Deangelis (Robbinsville, N.J.).

The teams would trade zeros for the next two innings before senior Jeff St. Pierre's (Milford, Conn.) single scored senior Alex Beland (Trois-Riviere, Quebec) to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead which sophomore Mick Terzi (Wallingford, Conn.) was able to hold onto. Terzi pitched the final two innings of the game, and was credited with the win.

Terzi was outstanding, striking out three.

John Fees (0-4) pitched a complete game for the Mountain Cats (3-7), striking out six and giving up two unearned runs.

The second game featured another duel which lasted into the seventh and final inning of the game.

With the bases loaded and no one out, freshman Evan Devico (Waterbury, Conn.) threw a wild pitch, allowing Nate Pope to score to end the game, giving the Mountain Cats (3-7) the 1-0 win.

Senior Matt Cambria (Toronto, Ontario) pitched a great game for the Eagles, striking out three in six innings. He was charged with the lone run. He is 0-1 on the season.

Post had a chance to score in the top of the second after getting two men on, but after two fly outs and a strikeout, the threat ended. The Eagles had chances in the fourth and fifth innings to score, but came up short, leaving two men on base in each inning.

Senior Julien Casaubon (Jiolette, Quebec) and Beland both had two hits for the Eagles.

Derek Younker pitched a complete game seven innings, striking out six for the Mountain Cats.
