SUTHERLAND, Va. – The Post University baseball team fell to Mansfield of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) 6-5 Sunday evening despite a two-run rally in the ninth inning. Senior outfielder
Marcel Chavez (Los Angeles, Calif.) and senior second baseman
Mike Shada (Holtsville, N.Y.) were a combined 4-for-6 in the game.
The Eagles trailed by three runs entering the ninth inning before making a gutsy comeback. Chavez and sophomore catcher
Brian McKenna (New York, N.Y.) led off the inning with back-to-back singles.
Shada drove in Chavez with a sacrifice fly to centerfield, and a fielder's choice by senior first baseman
Julien Casaubon (Jiolette, Quebec) brought McKenna across the plate to make it a one run game. However, the rally was too little, too late as Jeremy Mapstone struck out junior third baseman
Dylan Pastor (Hewlett, N.Y.) to notch the save for the Mountaineers.
Post outhit Mansfield seven to three, but the Eagles made three errors which led to two unearned runs. Junior
Don Crook (Meriden, Conn.) got the start for Post going five innings with four strikeouts while giving up just one earned run and two hits.
Casaubon got Post on the board first with an RBI single in the first inning. After Mansfield added two runs, senior shortstop
Zach Brecht (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) drew a base-loaded walk to knot things up at two runs apiece. Brecht, who walked three times in the game, scored in the sixth on a single from Chavez as well.
Both Chavez and Shada went 2-for-3 each with an RBI, run scored and a walk. Sophomore right-hander
Mick Terzi (Wallingford, Conn.) recorded four strikeouts in 1.2 innings for the Eagles.
Mitch Iseneker notched the win for Mansfield while sophomore
Laurence Marsach (Bronx, N.Y.) drew the loss.
Post (0-3) will head down to Florida for seven games starting with a matchup against the University of Mary on March 3 at 11 a.m.
