Post Volleyball Falls to Queens in Season-Opener

Griffin Records 15 Kills in Home Debut

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's volleyball team fell to Queens 3-1 in its season-opener on Saturday afternoon at the Drubner Center. The set scores were 15-25, 20-25, 25-16, 18-25. Freshman Morgan Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) got her career started on the right foot by recording a game-high 15 kills in her debut.
 
Senior Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) added 12 kills along with 7 digs. Junior Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) recorded a game-high 29 assists.
 
Despite a valiant effort, the Eagles committed 29 errors compared to just 18 by the Knights.
 
Post finished with more kills (48) than Queens (38). The Eagles also had 35 assists, nine more than the Knights.
 
Post held its own in the first set, coming as close as 11-13, but Queens finished the set off with a 12-4 run.
 
The Eagles got off to a slow start in the second set before putting together six straight points to take a 20-19 lead. After a timeout by Queens, the Knights scored six straight points of their own to take the set.
 
The two teams battled back and forth in the third set before Post took full control. Despite going down 11-13, the Eagles caught fire and finished the set on a 14-3 run. Two freshmen, Griffin and Nicole Brown (Queens, N.Y.), led the incredible run for Post by tallying six combined kills.
 
Queens got off to a tremendous start in the fourth set and took a commanding 6-1 lead. Post clawed its way back to make the score 20-18 behind a block by Brown. The Knights proved to be too much in the end, however, finishing the match with five straight points.
 
Freshman Kerrin Kallmann (Lake Grove, N.Y.) chipped in with seven kills for the Eagles. Post finished the match with six total blocks.
 
Arielle Dicocco led the way for Queens with 14 kills. The Knights finished with 11 service aces and nine total blocks.
 
The Eagles return to action on Monday, Sept. 9 against Molloy at 7 p.m. at the Drubner Center.
