Volleyball Falls to Merrimack 3-0

Wilman Leads the way Again with 16 kills

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Post University women's volleyball team fell to Merrimack in a 3-0 sweep on Friday night at Bert Hammel Court in North Andover, Mass. as part of the Merrimack tournament. The set scores were 23-25, 18-25, 21-25. Senior Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) led the way for the Eagles with 16 kills and 13 digs.
 
Freshman Morgan Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) added five kills and nine digs. Senior Stephanie Zarakas (Patterson, N.Y.) contributed with two block assists as well for the Eagles.
 
Post fell behind early in the first set, 9-5, but fought right back to make things interesting. A kill by Wilman tied it up for the Eagles at 12-12. The team teams swapped points back and forth for the remainder of the set until Post pulled even at 23-23. Merrimack took the next two points to take an opening set win.
 
The Eagles held early leads of 5-2 and 8-6 in the second set behind four Wilman kills before the Warriors came roaring back. Post railed by just one point at 11-10 and then Merrimack hit the ground running, scoring five points in a row to take a 16-10 lead. Three kills by Wilman helped to get Post back within two at 16-14, but it wasn't enough. Merrimack finished the set on a 9-4 run to win it 25-18.
 
Post trailed 9-8 early in the third set before Merrimack caught fire. The Warriors jumped out to a 20-12 lead, but the Eagles would not give in. Post came back to make it 22-20, but Merrimack was just too much in the end, taking the set 25-21.
 
The Eagles (1-6) finished with a kill percentage of just .198 and had 10 service errors. Junior Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) finished with 25 assists for Post.
 
Stephanie Sheehan led the way for Merrimack with 16 kills. The Warriors improve to 3-6 on the season.
 
Next up for Post is Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m., also part of the Merrimack tournament.
