Offense Struggles As Softball Swept By USciences

DeMartino Leads Eagles With Two RBI, Two Hits

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Post University softball team managed just five hits in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at USciences on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles dropped the first game 5-0, before falling the second 8-2. Junior Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) had two hits and drove in a pair of runs.
 
Freshman Kimberly Yano (Blauvelt, N.Y.) recorded her second hit of the season in game one. Juniors Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) each had a hit and a run scored.
 
Game One – USciences 5, Post 0
Katie Dickson hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning to put the Devils ahead 1-0. DeMartino hit a single up the middle to begin the second but couldn't advance as the Eagles went down in order afterwards.
 
Bonamassa was hit by a pitch in the top of the third inning with one out. Senior Lianna May (King Ferry, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice as Bonamassa was forced out. Freshman Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) flew out to end the inning.
 
The Devils tacked on three more runs in the third as Dickson drove in her second run of the game. A doubled by Kerrianne Jones put USciences ahead 4-0. Erin Summers hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the final run in the fifth inning.
 
Game Two – USciences 8, Post 2
The Eagles were held hitless until the sixth inning in game two. Senior Casey Sclafani (Brooklyn, N.Y.) reached on an error by the pitcher in the second but was held up. Bonamassa walked to begin the fourth but was later forced out on a fielder's choice.
 
USciences put three runs on the board in the second inning. Gabrielle Adams drove in two on a single to center field. Devon Debellis hit a sacrifice fly to right to put the Devils ahead 3-0.
 
Bonamassa recorded the Eagles first hit of game two with a single to left field with two outs in the top of the sixth. Udris followed with a base knock to right. DeMartino cleared the bases with a double to deep centerfield to close the deficit to 5-2.
 
Dickson struck again in the bottom of the frame with a double with the bases loaded to drive in three and extend USciences advantage to 8-2. The Eagles went down in order in the seventh.
 
Post is back in action on Monday, April 8 at home against Bridgeport. The doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
