Softball Falls To UMass-Lowell, 9-1

Two Eagles Record Two Hits On The Day

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University softball team was defeated by Northeast-10 opponent UMass-Lowell, 9-1, Tuesday afternoon at LaMoy Field. Juniors Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) each led the Eagles with two hits.
 
Junior Casey Sclafani (Brooklyn, N.Y.) drove in the lone run for Post and had one hit on the day.  Freshman Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) hit a ground-rule double, the Eagles' only extra-base hit. Senior Lianna May (King Ferry, N.Y.) and junior Rebecca Erb (Yardley, Pa.) each had a base-hit.
 
Post loaded the bases with one out in the second inning, but couldn't bring home a run. DeMartino led-off the frame with an infield single. After a fielder's choice for the first out, Erb had a base-hit through the left side and Esque drew a walk. All three runners were stranded as the next two batter struck out to end the inning.
 
Arianna Darcy drew a bases-loaded walk in the third inning to bring home the first run for the River Hawks and a single by Abby Jamieson drove in two more. Ali Ferraro smashed a three-run home run to centerfield to put UMass-Lowell in front 6-0.
 
The Eagles got one back in the bottom of the inning as the first four to bat all hit singles. Sclafani brought home the run with a base-hit to left field as May came in to make the score 6-1. The River Hawks extended their advantage to 9-1 with three runs on four hits in the fourth inning.
 
Post closes out its regular season on Saturday, April 27 at home against Holy Family. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
