PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Junior Casey Sclafani (Brooklyn, N.Y.) hit a grand slam in the first game of the Post University softball team's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at Chestnut Hill on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles won game one, 8-2, and were defeated, 3-2, in the second. Every player with an at-bat for Post recorded at least one hit in the doubleheader for the first time this season.

Sclafani went 4-for-4 in game one with a double, four RBI, and three runs scored. Junior Rebecca Erb (Yardley, Pa.) recorded three hits, two RBI, and two stolen bases in the series. Junior Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) had two doubles and scored twice. Junior Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) and senior Lianna May (King Ferry, N.Y.) each had three hits and two runs scored.

Game One – Post 8, Chestnut Hill 2
Post took control with three runs in first inning, helped by two early errors by the Griffins. May reached on an error to start the game and Bonamassa followed with a bunt single to second. Sclafani pushed the first run across with a single to center field. Erb drove in two later in the frame with on a base-hit back to the pitcher to put the Eagles in front 3-0.

Allie Williams got the Griffins on the board with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second. Sclafani hit a ground-rule double to open the third. After a strikeout, junior Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) put Post ahead 4-2 with a double to center.

Freshman Kaitlin Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) reached on a throwing error with one out in the sixth. May and Bonamassa both hit singles through the left side to load the bases. Sclafani smashed a grand slam to left field to put the game away.

Senior Ashley Cummings (Stafford, Va.) picked up her fifth win of the season, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out four.

Game Two – Chestnut Hill 3, Post 2
Sarah Mattaliano hit a solo shot to left to begin the bottom of the first to put Chestnut Hill in front 1-0. Udris reached on an error and Erb singled up the middle in the second. After a flyout moved Udris to third, Erb stole second, but a popup ended the threat.

DeMartino led off the fourth with a ground-rule double over the left field wall. Udris reached on an error for the second time in the game and Erb laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both into scoring position with one out. Freshman Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) grounded out as DeMartino came home to tie the score 1-1.

Emily Soller singled with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth to put the Griffins back in front 2-1. DeMartino hit her second ground-rule double and later scored on a throwing error by the pitcher to tie the game back up 2-2.

Soller hit a home run with one out in the sixth for the winning run. Bonamassa reached in the seventh but was stranded at first.

Post is back at home against American International on Monday, April 22. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m.
