WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University softball team was defeated by Bloomfield in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at LaMoy Field. The Eagles lost game one, 11-5, and game two, 8-4. Junior
Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) hit her sixth home run of the season and drove in three RBI on the day.
Freshman
Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) led Post with four hits on the day including one double. She drove in two runs and scored once. Junior
Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) had two doubles as part of three hits and one RBI. Junior
Casey Sclafani (Brooklyn, N.Y.) drove in two runs on two hits.
Game One – Bloomfield 11, Post 5
The Eagles took their only lead of the day in the first inning of game one. Junior
Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) walked with one out and Sclafani followed with a single to put runners at the corners. DeMartino put Post in front with an RBI double to centerfield. Udris grounded out as Sclafani came home to make the score 2-0.
With the bases loaded in the second, Angie Yoshizu doubled to left field to tie the score. Ashton Corley followed with a two-run single to put the Deacons ahead 4-2. Yoshizu hit a single in the third to drive in two more as Bloomfield led 7-2 after three innings.
DeMartino led the fourth off with a double to center. Udris was hit by a pitch and both runners moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt. Esque cut the deficit to 7-3 with a single to center field. Two doubles pushed the Deacons lead to 11-3 in the sixth.
Esque doubled and later scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth to keep the Eagles alive. Sclafani hit a double to left field for the final Eagles' run.
Game Two – Bloomfield 8, Post 4
Bloomfield loaded the bases in the first and a fielder's choice brought home the first run. Post answered right back in the bottom of the frame as senior
Lianna May (King Ferry, N.Y.) scored after a lead-off walk to tie the game 1-1. The Deacons scored twice in the second and once in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead.
The Eagles got one run back in the fourth. Junior
Rebecca Erb (Yardley, Pa.) hit a double to right and advanced to third on a wild pitch with one out. Esque drove her in with an RBI single to center field.
Sclafani drew a one-out walk in the fifth inning and advanced to second on a groundout. Udris launched a home run to left field to put the Eagles within one at 5-4.
After back-to-back singles, Krystina Poloni tripled to right to extend the Bloomfield lead to 7-4. A two-out single later in the inning drove in another run. The Eagles stranded runners at second and third in the bottom of the frame.
Post will be back in action at home on Thursday, April 18 against Merrimack. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m.
