WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – After losing their first game of the season on Wednesday, the Post University baseball team got back in the win column on Thursday, March 7 with an 8-3 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan. Junior
Julien Casaubon (Jiolette, Quebec) was 3-for-5 on the day with a double and four runs batted in.
Senior
Todd Blair (Ajax, Ontario) had two hits, including a triple, drove in a run and scored twice. Junior
Zach Brecht (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) was 3-for-4 and scored a run. Junior
Billy Bryant Gonzalez (Ponce, Puerto Rico) had two hits and two runs scored. Sophomore Rob Gartner (Wantagh, N.Y.) picked up the win on the mound with two earned runs and six strikeouts over six innings pitched.
The Eagles loaded the bases with one out in the top of the first with singles by junior
Marcel Chavez (Los Angeles, Calif.), Blair, and Gonzalez. Casaubon cleared the bases with a double to put Post ahead 3-0 and advanced to third on a throw to the plate. He would later score on a wild pitch by Adam Newell.
West Virginia Wesleyan got on the board in the bottom of the first. Corey Lynn reached on an error and J.R. Tenney came home to make the score 4-1 after one.
Post extended its lead in the third inning. The first two runners reached as Gonzalez walked and Casaubon followed with a single. Both runners moved into scoring position as sophomore
Erik Rodriguez (Miami, Fla) grounded out to first. Freshman
JJ Cormier (Hialeah, Fla.) struck out but reach on a dropped third strike as Gonzalez came home. Casaubon scored on a fielder's choice by senior
Ian Toro (New York, N.Y.) to put the Eagles in front 6-1.
Brecht led off the sixth inning with a single and Blair drove him home with a triple. Post added another run as Casaubon singled to bring in Blair. The Eagles led 8-2 after six frames. The Bobcats added a run in bottom of the ninth.
Post is back in action today with two games against Southern Connecticut State. The Eagles close out their Florida trip on Saturday, March 9 against Northwood at 10 a.m.
