CLERMONT, Fla. – The Post University softball team didn't allow a run in either of its games on Wednesday in Clermont, Fla. The Eagles defeated Findlay 11-0 in the morning before dropping St. Anselm 2-0 in the afternoon. Freshman
Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) was 3-for-7 on the day and drove in five runs.
Junior
Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 4-for-6 with a double and two runs scored. Senior
Lianna May (King Ferry, N.Y.) had three hits and scored three runs. Junior
Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) drove in three runs on two hits. Senior
Johanna Rice (Glendale, N.Y.) allowed just two hits and struck out two in six innings pitched.
Game One – Post 11, Findlay 0, F/6
The Eagles started the scoring early with four runs in the first inning. Junior
Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) singled with two outs to drive in Bonamassa for the first run. After two walks loaded the bases, Esque doubled to clear the bases and put Post ahead 4-0.
Rice didn't allow a hit until the third inning when Jenna Motuza singled for Findlay, but couldn't advance past first.
Freshman
Kaitlin Iacomini (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) reached on an error with one out in the fourth and later stole second. After a single by May put runners at the corners, Udris cleared the bases with a single and extended the Eagles lead to 6-0.
Two errors and three walks led to four runs for the Eagles in the sixth inning. Esque capped off the game with a single to drive in her fourth run of the game and put Post in front 11-0. Findlay had just three baserunners and none could manage to get past first.
Game Two – Post 2, St. Anselm 0
Neither team threatened to score early in game two. Bonamassa doubled in the first inning, but was caught trying to steal third. St. Anselm had a hit in the second and third innings, but couldn't push a run across.
Three straight hits to lead-off the fourth inning put the Eagles in front 1-0. May singled to left center and later advanced to third on an error. Bonamassa reached on a bunt single to put runners at the corners. Udris drove in the run with a hit to right center.
Junior
Casey Sclafani (Brooklyn, N.Y.) singled to centerfield to load the bases with one out. Esque drove in the second Eagles' run with a base hit through the left side to put Post ahead 2-0.
The Hawks had a single and a double to put two runners in scoring position with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Kasey Moran popped out to end the threat. Esque had six strikeouts as she recorded her first-career win on the mound.
The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow against Southern New Hampshire at 1 p.m. and Stonehill at 3 p.m.
