WILMINGTON, Del. – Senior
Lianna May (King Ferry, N.Y.) extended her Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) hit streak to 29 games with two hits as the Post University softball team split its doubleheader at Goldey-Beacom on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles fell 5-0 in the first game before defeating the Lightning 4-3 in game two.
Junior
Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 4-for-4 in the second game with a double and an RBI. Juniors
Casey Sclafani (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and
Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) each had two hits on the day. Junior
Rebecca Erb (Yardley, Pa.) recorded a hit and a run scored.
Game One – Goldey-Beacom 5, Post 0
Junior
Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) reached on a throwing error with two outs in the first inning. Erb followed with a single through the left side as Udris moved to second. DeMartino flew out to centerfield to end the threat.
Sclafani began the second inning with a double down the left field line, but the Eagles would not get another base runner until the sixth.
Goldey-Beacom put the game away with a five-run fourth inning. The first three batters of the inning reached and the first run came home on a double by Samantha Alonzo. Asia Ellis and Alivia Schoff followed with triples to put the Lightning ahead 3-0. Goldey-Beacom recorded two more hits to add two more runs in the frame.
May extended her streak with a hit in the top of the sixth. Senior
Johanna Rice (Glendale, N.Y.) and Udris reached on error as Post loaded the bases with one out. Roni Peters struck out the next to Eagles to end the inning.
Rice didn't allow a hit and struck out two in 2.1 innings of relief.
Game Two – Post 4, Goldey-Beacom 3
Post jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two. Udris reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a wild pitch. An error by Roni Peters allowed Udris to come home for the first run, as Erb reached third. DeMartino singled up the middle to drive in Erb.
Junior
Stephanie Mendez (White Plains, N.Y.) drew a walk to begin the second inning. Bonamassa hit a bunt single back to the pitcher to put two on with no outs. Mendez moved to third on a flyout by May and put the Eagles ahead 3-0 on a wild pitch. Bonamassa scored on a passed ball later in the frame.
The Lightning pulled within one in the third inning as two of the first three batters reached. Madison Newhouser doubled in the first run. Schoff and Ashley Zaccaria each had RBI singles to make the score 4-3 through three innings.
Post put runners at the corners with no outs in the fourth as Bonamassa and May each hit singles up the middle. DeMartino recorded her fourth hit of the afternoon with a single in the seventh inning.
The Eagles begin a four-game road trip on Tuesday, April 2 with a twinbill against Concordia. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
