JJ Cormier (Hialeah, Fla.) recorded a hit and an RBI.
Post quickly got on the board in the first inning. Shada led-off the frame with a single through the left side and moved to second on a sacrifice by Toro. The first run came home as junior
Billy Bryant Gonzalez (Ponce, Puerto Rico) reached on an error by the shortstop and Shada crossed the plate. Cormier put the Eagles ahead 2-0 with a base hit to center to bring home Gonzalez.
Junior
Sean Sylvester (Berlin, Conn.) didn't allow the Pioneers to reach base over the first three innings. Post threatened in the bottom of the third. Rodriguez, Chavez, and Diz hit each singled with two outs to load the bases. Junior
Ian Ratchford (Danbury, Conn.) popped out to first to end the inning.
Keith Herring recorded the first hit for LIU-Post with a single to begin the fourth. After another base hit, Anthony Corona put the Pioneers ahead 3-2 with a three-run home run over the left field wall. Chavez reached second on an error in fifth inning with two outs, but was stranded there.
LIU-Post extended its lead to 5-2 in the seventh as the first five batters reached base. The Pioneers led-off with three consecutive singles, capped off by an RBI hit by David Groeneveld. They added the fifth run on a fielder's choice by Herring.
Senior
Todd Blair (Ajax, Ontario) singled to left-center with one out in the seventh. Rodriguez and Chavez followed with base hits to load the bases. Mike Eckerle struck out the next two Eagles to end the threat.
Post travels to face Dominican on Tuesday, April 2 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
