Udris Hits Two Home Runs, Seven RBI In Sweep Of Nyack

Eagles Score 19 Runs in Game Two, Most in Program’s Division II History

NYACK, N.Y. – It was a record-breaking day as the Post University softball team swept Nyack in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader on Thursday. The Eagles defeated the Warriors 4-0 in game one, their fourth shutout win of the season. Post won 19-2 in the second game, the most runs the program has scored in its Division II history.
 
Junior Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) was 7-for-10 with two home runs, two doubles, a triple, seven RBI, and five runs scored. Junior Rebecca Erb (Yardley, Pa.) had five hits, including a triple, and two RBI. Juniors Casey Sclafani (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) each had four hits and three RBI. DeMartino added a home run. Senior Lianna May (King Ferry, N.Y.) extended her CACC hit streak to 27 consecutive games.
 
Game One – Post 4, Nyack 0
Junior Alysha Pieta (Middletown, Conn.) reached on a fielder's choice in the second inning and later advanced to third on a groundout. Junior Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) drew a walk and stole second as the Eagles had runners at second and third with two outs. May drove home the first run of the day with a single to put Post ahead 1-0.
 
Freshman Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) had a base hit with two outs in fifth inning. Udris followed with her first triple of the season as the Eagles took a 2-0 lead. Post loaded the bases in the top of the sixth, but failed to extend its advantage.
 
Esque singled and Udris doubled to lead off the seventh. Sclafani drove them both home with a double to put Post ahead 4-0. Chelsea Macaluso hit a single for Nyack with one out in the seventh. Taylor Brown grounded into a double-play to end the game.
 
Esque recorded her second win of the season on the mound. She pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out eight.
 
Game Two – Post 19, Nyack 2
The Eagles put game two away with a 10-run seventh inning, where Post scored four times before recording an out. The first three batters of the inning; Esque, Udris, and Erb; all hit singles to load the bases. The hits kept coming as DeMartino got a base-hit to drive in the first run of the inning. A walk, hit by pitch, and single brought home three more runs as Post pulled away 13-2.
 
Senior Johanna Rice (Glendale, N.Y.) and May each recorded outs, but also drove in run as the Eagles took a 15-2 lead. Esque reached on an error by the left fielder. Udris capped off the onslaught with a grand slam, her second long ball of the day.
 
May doubled to lead off the game and later scored on a triple by Erb. DeMartino hit a two-run homer later in the inning as Post took an early 3-0 lead. The Eagles scored three runs in the third as Erb and sophomore Kaitlin Derby (Douglaston, N.Y.) hit RBI singles.
 
Esque reached on an error to begin the fourth and Udris followed with a two-run bomb to put the Eagles in front 8-0. Becky Ferry hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning for the only Nyack runs of the day. Junior Stephanie Mendez (White Plains, N.Y.) had an RBI single in the sixth.
 
Senior Ashley Cummings (Stafford, Va.) struck out 10 batters in seven innings pitched.
 
Post heads to Goldey-Beacom for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 30. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
