WATERBURY, Conn. – Junior
Rebecca Erb (Yardley, Pa.) had six hits on the day, but the Post University softball team was defeated in two games by Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Felician at LaMoy Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles lost the first game 6-2 in nine innings before falling in the second 5-4.
Erb had two doubles and has now recorded a hit in eight of her last 12 at-bats. Juniors
Stephanie Mendez (White Plains, N.Y.) and
Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) each had two three hits and two RBI on the day. DeMartino also launched her first home run of the season. Senior
Lianna May (King Ferry, N.Y.) had two hits, including a triple, extending her conference hit streak to 25 games, and two RBI.
Game One – Felician 6, Post 2, F/9
Felician pushed the first run of the day across in the second inning. Gina Piserchio drew a walk with two outs to put runners at first and second. Aimee Lopez reached on an error as the first run came home to put the Golden Falcons ahead 1-0.
The Eagles threatened in the bottom of the fifth. Erb hit an infield single with one out. Junior
Alysha Pieta (Middletown, Conn.) followed with hit to left. Both runners moved into scoring position as Mendez grounded out to second. May flew out to end the inning.
Erb doubled to lead-off the seventh inning. Pieta moved the tying run to third with one out with a sacrifice bunt. Mendez drove in Erb to tie the game 1-1 with an infield single. Neither team scored in the eighth inning.
The Golden Falcons took control of the game with a five-run ninth. Piserchio moved the placed runner over to third with a lead-off bunt. Halei Van Dyke hit a triple as the next three Felician batters reached and drove in runs to pull ahead 4-1. The Golden Falcons scored twice more before freshman
Samantha Esque (Springfield, Pa.) notched a strikeout to end the inning.
Mendez drove in her second run of the game in the bottom of the ninth. Senior
Ashley Cummings (Stafford, Va.) struck out seven in 8.1 innings pitched.
Game Two – Felician 5, Post 4
Tori Bradburn hit a two-run home run to center field in the top of the second to put Felician up 2-0 early. The Eagles answered with two runs in the third inning. Mendez and junior
Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) each drew walks with one out. Esque reached on a fielder's choice to put runners at first and second. May cleared the bases down the right field line to tie the game 2-2.
Post took its first lead of the afternoon in the fourth. Erb led off with a hit through the left side and moved to second on a wild pitch. DeMartino launched a ball over the left-center field wall as the Eagles pulled ahead 4-2.
Felician entered the seventh inning down 4-3 after scoring a run in the sixth. After a lead-off walk, Van Dyke singled and advanced to second to put runners at second and third with no outs. The Golden Falcons took the lead 5-4 as their next two batters had RBI singles.
Erb doubled with two outs in the bottom of the seventh but was stranded at second.
Post hits the field again on Thursday, March 28 for a twinbill at Nyack. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
