WATERBURY, Conn. – After a third-place finish in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament last season, the Post University softball team looks to build on that success in the 2013 campaign. The Eagles kick the season off in Clermont, Fla. at the National Training Center (NTC) Spring Games. The 10-game trip begins with a doubleheader on Sunday, March 3 against Assumption.

“We are excited to get things going and look forward to competing every day,” said head coach Tracey Garofalo, “We have a great group of young women that not only work hard on the field but in the classroom as well.”

Team Outlook:
Post returns 2012 First Team All-CACC performer senior Lianna May (King Ferry, N.Y.). May led the team and was sixth in the conference with a .401 batting average. She totaled 69 hits, including nine doubles, and a team-high 39 runs scored last season. May rides a 19-game hit streak in CACC games into 2013. Junior Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) also returns. She led the Eagles with 40 runs batted in and 16 doubles. Junior Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) looks to lead the team in home runs for third consecutive season. She was 10th in the CACC with six long balls last year.

Senior Ashley Cummings (Stafford, Va.) was 11-13 on the mound last season. She led the Eagles and was fourth in the conference with 104 strikeouts. Cummings had a 3.52 earned run average and recorded one shutout in 2012. Senior Johanna Rice (Glendale, N.Y.) threw 134.0 innings and struck out 62 batters.

They return two All-NE10 performers in Jess DiPilato and Melissa Jalbert. The lone ranked team the Eagles will play in the NTC Spring Games is West Virginia Wesleyan. The Bobcats head into the week ranked 17th in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Poll. Southern New Hampshire was picked second in the NE-10 Preseason Poll. The Penmen are led by First Team All-NE10 honoree Kelsea Cheney. The Eagles also play Cedarville, Findlay, Saint Anselm, Stonehill, Wayne State, and Fort Hays State at the event.
