Joe Baccielo (Stratford, Conn.) the Post University men's soccer team coasted to a 5-0 win over Northeast-10 Conference foe Le Moyne on Tuesday afternoon at LaMoy Field. With the win, Post moved to 2-1 this season and improved its home unbeaten streak to 11 matches.
Baccielo tallied his Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference- (CACC) leading fourth and fifth goals of the season in the 66
th and 77
th minutes of the contest, respectively. He has turned in multi-goal outings in consecutive games. Additionally, sophomore
Gustavo Ferreira (Betim, Brazil), junior
Henry Ipina (Danbury, Conn.) and sophomore
Jose Monterroza (Los Angeles, Calif.) tallied their first goals of the season. Ipina's was the first of his collegiate career.
In the 32
nd minute of the match, Ferreira netted the eventual game-winning goal after he finished a ball from six yards out. Freshman
Francisco Sastre (Sao Paulo, Brazil) served a ball from the left sideline into the box. Baccielo touched it on to Ferreira who finished the play. The Eagles led 1-0 at halftime.
Baccielo increased the Post lead to 2-0 in the 66
th minute after he finished a ball from
Terrell Whitting (Naugatuck, Conn.) to the far post that beat Le Moyne (0-2) goalkeeper Matthew Silva.
Over a span of 8:58, Post tacked on three goals to blow the contest open. Ipina netted his first collegiate goal from 35 yards out. Baccielo and Monterroza added goals in the 77
th and 85
th minutes, respectively to get Post the 5-0 triumph.
Senior goalkeeper
Errol Reid (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) notched his second consecutive shutout. He made one save in the match.
In the regional contest, Post held a 14-9 edge in shots and a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. As a team, the last time the Eagles scored five goals in a match was Oct. 13, 2011, in a 5-3 victory over Concordia. The last time Post scored four goals in a single half was on Oct. 25, 2009, against Chestnut Hill. The squad netted four goals in the opening stanza.
Winners in back-to-back games, Post will play consecutive CACC games on the road. The Eagles will first travel to Rutherford, N.J., when the take on Felician on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 3 p.m.
