HERSHEY, Pa. – The Post University golf team will make its eighth consecutive NCAA Regional appearance as it heads down to Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa. for the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional on May 7-May 9. 
 
The tournament features the top 20 teams in the Atlantic and East Regions and the top four individuals whose team did not qualify. All but two teams from last year's Atlantic/East Regional make the return trip in 2012. St. Thomas Aquinas won the regional by 10 strokes in 2011, before finishing 17th in the NCAA Championship.
 
LAST TIME OUT:
The Eagles finished second at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship, 12 strokes behind champion Wilmington. Thomas Rees (Cardiff, Wales) was named to the All-Tournament Team after shooting a 153 (76-77), good for fourth place. Two other Eagles placed in the top-10 as Ross Earnshaw (York, England), 155 (79-76), and Anthony Netto (Dusseldorf, Germany), 156 (79-77), placed seventh and ninth, respectively.
 
EAGLES IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT:
Post has been selected to the NCAA Regional in each of the last eight seasons, but has never advanced to the NCAA Championship. The Eagles have finished in the top-10 three times, most recently in 2011. Last season, Post finished in eighth place with a score of 911 (292-314-305).
 
POST FRESHMAN CLASS IMPACT:
Golfstat.com has ranked the freshman class impact of the Eagles as 17th in NCAA Division II out of over 200 schools nationwide.
 
The scores for Sebastian Noesgaard (Copenhagen, Denmark) and Anthony McNamara (Beacon Falls, Conn.) were included in the rankings. The two combined to play in 25 rounds this season and post a scoring average of 78.92, which was adjusted to 77.04 for the purpose of the rankings. The Eagles had a relative strength score of 199.247 to place them in 17th overall.
 
Freshman class impact is calculated by taking the adjusted scoring averages of the freshman that have played in the most rounds are compared between all teams throughout the country. That is then factored into each team's adjusted average to come up with a relative strength score out of 1000.
 
SCOUTING THE FIELD:
All five teams that advanced in last year's regional return to the field in 2012, led by 2011 Regional Champion St. Thomas Aquinas.
 
The Spartans are ranked second in the most recent East Regional poll. They have finished in the top-10 seven times this season and won three tournaments. Indiana (Pa.) won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship. The Crimson Hawks are ranked first in the Atlantic Region and have finished either first or second in all eight of their tournaments this season.
 
Wilmington is the top ranked team in the East Region and is coming off a 12 stroke victory over Post at the CACC Championship. They are one of three CACC teams in the field. Concord is coming off a victory in its most recent tournament. The Mountain Lions have six top-5 finishes this season. American International ranks seventh in the East Region and has three top-5 finishes.
 
California (Pa.), Charleston, Clarion, Bluefield State, West Chester, Davis & Elkins, Fayetteville State, Mercyhurst, Dowling, Bentley, UMass-Lowell, Goldey-Beacom, Franklin Pierce, and Adelphi round out the field.
 
COURSE INFORMATION:
The East Course at Hershey Country Club is a par-71, 7,061-yard course located in Hershey, Pa. It has a rating of 74.5 and a slope of 136. The East Course has hosted several PGA tournaments.
 
LOOKING AHEAD:
The top five teams and two individuals after 54-holes advance to the NCAA Championship at Cardinal Country Club in Louisville, Ky. on May 15-19.
