Box Score

WATERBURY, Conn. – Junior shortstop Todd Blair (Ajax, Ontario) of the Post University baseball team drove the game-winning single off the centerfield wall with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to propel the Eagles past visiting Dominican on Monday afternoon at Municipal Stadium. Freshman Taylor Carr (St. Thomas, Ontario) earned his second win in six days as Post improved to 3-7 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.

In the bottom of the ninth, senior James Wong (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led off the inning with a double to left center. He moved to third on a fielding error by second baseman Austin Holzkencht, to put runners on the corners with one out. After freshman Erik Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) struck out swinging on a 2-2 pitch, Blair's single hit off the centerfield wall to end the game.

Carr, who pitched the final two innings for Post (10-18, 3-7 CACC), worked through the top of the ninth, where Dominican put runners on first and third with two outs. After Andrew Camardella walked, he advanced to third on a base hit by Christopher Gonzalez, Carr got Tyler Sadawske to fly out to center field to end the threat.

The Eagles capitalized on three Dominican (11-18, 5-5 CACC) errors in the bottom of the first. Juniors Bobby Rodriguez (Carmel, N.Y.), Alexandre Beland (Trios-Rivere, Quebec) and Alex Villar (Albuquerque, N.M.) crossed the plate, while senior Russell Sirko (Danbury, Conn.) recorded an RBI.

Carr pushed the Post lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth. He led the inning off with a double and scored from third when Wong reached on an error.

With the Chargers trailing 5-1 in the seventh, Dominican trimmed the deficit to one run, 5-4. The Chargers tied the score in the eighth. After a leadoff triple by Holzknecht, he scored on an RBI single up the middle by Robert Alonso.

Junior Kevin Collinge (Chandler, Ariz.) pitched the first 6.2 innings and gave up four runs, one of which was earned. He struck out nine batters. Collinge did not factor into the decision. With the win, Carr moved to 2-1 this season.

Post will step away from CACC action to take on Southern Connecticut State at Municipal Stadium on Tuesday, April 10. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
