NEW CASTLE, Del. – The Post University baseball team lost both games of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at Wilmington on Saturday at Wilson Field. The Eagles lost game one 6-5 in 10 innings, and dropped the nightcap 10-3. With the losses, the Eagles fell to 9-18 overall and 2-7 in conference games.
Junior
Bobby Rodriguez (Carmel, N.Y.) extended his hit streak to five games. He gave Post a one-run advantage in the opener with a two-out double in the top of the ninth and drove a base hit to left field in the seventh inning of game two. Junior
Joe Diz (Albuquerque, N.M.) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored in the first game of the doubleheader.
Game One – Wilmington 6, Post 5- 10 Innings
With two outs in the top of the ninth and Post trailing 4-2, freshman
Taylor Carr (St. Thomas, Ontario) and senior
James Wong (Brooklyn, N.Y.) drew back-to-back walks. Diz plated Carr on a RBI single. After an
Erik Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) walk,
Bobby Rodriguez scorched a double to drive in Wong and Diz and give Post a 5-4 lead.
However, Wilmington used a leadoff triple by Mike Godwin and a run-scoring single by Jordan Oncay to tie the score at 5-5 after nine innings. After Post went down in order in the top of the 10
th, Oncay drew a walk with the bases loaded, which plated Jonathan Rodriguez to give the Wildcats the win.
Junior
Andrew Harris (Huntington Beach, Calif.) suffered the loss and fell to 1-2 on the season. Senior
Stephen Corbett (Prospect, Conn.) pitched the first 8.2 innings for Post and did not factor into the decision. Oncay earned the win for Wilmington and moved to 2-0 this season.
Game Two – Wilmington 10, Post 3
After the Eagles scored two times in the top of the first on a RBI double by junior
Todd Blair (Ajax, Ontario) and a sacrifice fly by senior
Russell Sirko (Danbury, Conn.), Wilmington responded with five runs over the first three innings. Godwin keyed the stretch with a two-run single in the first.
Wilmington took a 10-2 lead after a five-run fifth inning. Runs were driven in during four consecutive at bats during the inning.
Sophomore
Jesus Nunez (Bronx, N.Y.) drove in
Bobby Rodriguez in the top of the ninth on a double down the right field line.
Sophomore
Sean Sylvester (Berlin, Conn.) pitched three innings shutout innings in relief. He has not allowed a run in the last 8.1 innings pitched.
Post will return to the diamond on Monday, April 9, when the Eagles conclude the regular season series with Dominican. First pitch at Municipal Stadium is scheduled for noon. The contest marks the start of a six-game homestand.
