Box Score
WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University baseball team suffered a 7-6 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss to Dominican on Thursday at Municipal Stadium. Despite the loss, junior
Bobby Rodriguez (Carmel, N.Y.) went 3-for-6 with two doubles in the leadoff spot and extended his hitting streak to three games.
In three games at the top spot in the lineup, Rodriguez is batting .385 with four runs scored and two doubles. He helped Post (9-16, 2-5 CACC) to a season-high 13 hits, while junior
Alex Villar (Mesa, Ariz.) and senior
Russell Sirko (Danbury, Conn.) and
Taylor Carr (St. Thomas, Ontario) each added two hits apiece.
The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. After Carr led off the inning with a double to right field, junior
Joe Diz (Albuqurque, N.M.) used a two-out single to left field to score Carr from third. A Rodriguez base hit to left field and an
Alexandre Beland (Trios-Rivere, Quebec) hit by pitch loaded the bases. Diz scored on a fielding error by the shortstop during Villar's at bat.
Dominican (11-17, 5-4 CACC) tied the score at two, with runs in the third and fourth inning. RBI singles by Xavier Bonilla and Tyler Clark accounted for the runs.
In the bottom of the sixth, Post used a two-out rally to regain a two-run advantage, 4-2. Rodriguez doubled to centerfield and came around to score on a Beland triple to right center. Beland scored on a passed ball. The three-base hit marked the third consecutive game for Post with a triple.
However, the Chargers used a four-run eighth to take the lead for good. A two-RBI single by Robert Alonso and a double down the left field line by Tony Blake plated two more runs. Dominican held a 7-5 lead midway through the eighth.
After a RBI single by Carr in the eighth, Post attempted to tie the score in the bottom of the ninth. Rodriguez drove a two-out double to left center and sophomore
Jeff St. Pierre (Milford, Conn.) walked to put the winning run on first. However, junior
Chase Loudenback (Hutchinson, Kan.) struck out swinging to end the game.
Senior starter
Cutler Ruby (Diboll, Texas) did not factor into the decision after he pitched the first 6.1 innings of the game. He allowed three earned runs and struck out six. Junior
Kevin Collinge (Chandler, Ariz.) suffered the loss and fell to 1-2 on the season. Matthew Festa earned the win out of the bullpen for Dominican, and Nicholas Kelvin picked up his third save of the year.
The Eagles will travel to Wilmington for a CACC twinbill on Saturday, April 7. First pitch of the opener is slated for noon.
