Post Eliminated From CACC Tournament By Bloomfield, 5-4; Finish In Third Place

Eagles Wrap Up Tournament With Best Finish Since 2003

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Post University softball team was eliminated from the 2012 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament after a 5-4 loss to sixth-seeded Bloomfield on Saturday. The Eagles finished third in the tournament, which marked the program's best finish since the squad won the event in 2003.
 
Sophomore Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) paced the Eagles' offense with a 2-for-4 day at the plate and two RBIs and a run scored.
 
In the sixth inning with the scored tied at 4-4, Brandi Bodin drove a one-out solo home run that sailed over the left field fence just inside the foul pole. It was the Lady Deacons' third home run of the contest.
 
After Bloomfield (32-21) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the Eagles tied the score at 1-1 in their half of the frame. DeMartino drove in junior Lianna May (King Ferry, N.Y.) with a two-out single to center field to even the score.
 
The Lady Deacons took a 4-1 lead in the top of the third with a pair of home runs, but Post (19-32) immediately answered and tied the score. DeMartino drove in her second run of the game and sophomore Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) with a single to right field. DeMartino and senior Amy Mantha (Agawam, Mass.) as a result of a pair of Bloomfield errors with two outs. After three innings, the score was 4-4.
 
Junior Johanna Rice (Glendale, N.Y.) suffered the loss in the circle for Post. In the final 4.1 innings she allowed three hits and one earned run. She tallied two strikeouts. Ally Schraer got the win out of the bullpen for Bloomfield.
 
The Eagles conclude the 2012 season with an overall record of 19-32. Individually, May has hit safely in the last 19 games against conference competition and she hit .450 in the CACC Tournament, while DeMartino finished the event with 10 RBIs and a .421 average.  May and DeMartino were named to the CACC All-Tournament Team.
