Baseball Hits Two Home Runs In Split At Philadelphia

Blair And Villar Go Deep In 6-1 Game Two Win

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Post University baseball team used a pair of home runs to take a 6-1 victory from Philadelphia University in the nightcap of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) road doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Rams took the opener 10-4, before the Eagles responded with the victory in game two in the conference finale for Post.
 
Junior Todd Blair (Ajax, Ontario) opened the scoring in game two with a solo shot in the sixth, and classmate Alex Villar (Mesa, Ariz.) drove in all three runs in the ninth inning with a home run as well. Senior Stephen Corbett (Prospect, Conn.) tossed a complete game in the finale to improve to 4-4 on the year. He scattered six hits and struck out six batters.
 
Game One: Philadelphia 10, Post 4
The Eagles opened up a 4-0 lead after their first two turns at bat. In the top of the first, junior catcher Alexandre Beland (Trios-Rivere, Quebec) drew a one-out walk. After her advanced to second on a passed ball, he scored on a wild pitch.
 
In the second inning Post pushed across three more runs. Beland and Villar drove in juniors Bobby Rodriguez (Carmel, N.Y.) and Joe Diz (Albuquerque, N.M.). Rodriguez and Diz both singled through the left side to start the inning. Senior James Wong (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also scored in the inning. Wong walked.
 
Philadelphia scored the final 10 runs of the game, including five in the bottom of the second. All five runs were scored with two outs and included two-RBI singles by Kyle DeGennaro and Jordan Force.
 
The Rams increased the lead to six runs in the bottom of the seventh after three runs came across. TJ Bergmann drove in a pair of runs to highlight the stanza.
 
Senior Cutler Ruby (Diboll, Texas) suffered the loss after he pitched the first 6.1 innings. He allowed 10 earned runs and struck out six batters. Sophomore Sean Sylvester (Berlin, Conn.) tossed the final 1.2 innings, and he allowed just two hits.
 
Game Two: Post 6, Philadelphia 1
After the first five innings were played with no score, Blair got Post (15-27, 7-13 CACC) on the board with a solo home run. The Eagles grew the lead to 2-0 in the seventh after a run-scoring single by Wong.
 
After Philadelphia cut the deficit to one run, 2-1, in the seventh, Post answered with a run in the eighth to make the margin 3-1. Villar blasted a three-run home run with no outs in the ninth to score Wong and Beland.
 
Up Next:
Post will round out the 2012 campaign when it hosts Briarcliffe in a non-conference doubleheader at Municipal Stadium on Friday, May 4. A pair of seven inning games, first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. It will mark the program's Senior Day and five seniors – Hayden Allred (Waxachachie, Texas), Corbett, Ruby, Russell Sirko (Danbury, Conn.) and Wong will be honored in a ceremony in between games.
