Pagano’s Sixth Inning Triple Pushes Post Past Felician, 11-8

Post Continues Best Tournament Run Under Head Coach Tracey Garofalo

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Senior Samantha Pagano (Marlboro, N.Y.) drove a two-RBI triple down the left field line in the bottom of the sixth to give the Post University softball team an 11-8 win over Felician in the 2012 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament on Friday afternoon. The win was the Eagles' third of the tournament and second straight when facing elimination.
 
With the win, Post (19-31) is in the midst of its best tournament run under head coach Tracey Garofalo. Furthermore, it is the best CACC Tournament run for the Eagles since they claimed the conference title in 2003.
 
Senior Cassidie Ern (Hope Valley, R.I.) and sophomore Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) tallied three hits each. Ern scored two runs, and DeMartino drove in three. Junior Lianna May (King Ferry, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI to extend her hit streak against CACC foes to 18 games.
 
In the sixth with the score tied at 7-7, senior Kim Bentson (Brewster, N.Y.) and Ern singled to start the inning. Pagano drove a triple down the left field line to clear the bases and give Post a 9-7 lead. May plated Pagano on a single up the middle, and DeMartino drove in May to make the score 11-7 after six innings.
 
The Eagles grabbed a 6-0 lead after two innings of play. In the bottom of the first, DeMartino drove in two runs with a one-out double to right center. May and sophomore Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored on the play. In the second, Post scored four unearned runs, and received RBIs from Bonamassa and a sacrifice fly by sophomore Casey Sclafani (Brooklyn, N.Y.).
 
With Post ahead 7-1, Felician (18-34) scored five times in the top of the fourth to pull within one, 7-6. The Golden Falcons got two-RBI base hits from Zharde Sellona and Taylor Parker to highlight the inning. One inning later, Felician tied the score at 7-7 when Natalie Quintanilla scored on a throwing error.
 
Junior Ashley Cummings (Stafford, Va.) earned the win for the Eagles and improved to 11-13 this season.
 
Post will face sixth-seeded Bloomfield in the Eagles' third straight elimination game. The contest will take place on Saturday, April 27, at 11 a.m. at Georgian Court University. The winner will face Dominican for the 2012 CACC Tournament Title and receive the conference's automatic berth the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
