LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Post University softball team was handed an 11-3 loss by top-seeded Dominican in the 2012 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament on Thursday afternoon. The Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but the Chargers scored 11 unanswered to end the game in six innings.
Senior
Kim Bentson (Brewster, N.Y.) finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and junior
Lianna May (King Ferry, N.Y.) increased her hitting streak against conference foes to 16 games. May went 1-for-3 in the loss.
Post (17-31) grabbed a 2-0 lead on a one-out single down the right field line by Bentson that drove in senior
Amy Mantha (Agawam, Mass.) and sophomore
Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) scored on the play.
Bentson grew the Eagles' lead to 3-0 in the fourth. She drove a one-out double to left field to get on base. After she advanced to third on a groundout, she scored on a throwing error by the catcher.
In the bottom of the fourth, Dominican (35-15) scored six runs to take the lead for good. Julie Plante drove a one-out grand slam over the fence in right center. Delaney Childers finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored. She also earned the win in the circle for the Chargers.
Fifth-seeded Post will face third-seeded Georgian Court in an elimination game on Friday, April 27, at noon. The Lions are the tournament hosts.
