Four Home Runs Propel Eagles To Sweep On Senior Day

Post Clinches Spot In CACC Tournament With The Victories

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University softball team swept Chestnut Hill in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader at LaMoy Field on Friday afternoon. The Eagles outscored the Griffins 17-2 in the contests. Post finished the regular season with a record of 16-30 and 14-12 in CACC play. The sweep clinched a berth in the CACC Tournament for the Eagles.
 
Sophomore Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) notched her second multi-home run game of the season with two longballs in game one. She finished with four hits, four RBIs, and four runs scored. Junior Lianna May (King Ferry, N.Y.) extended her hitting streak in CACC games to 14 games with five hits on the afternoon. Senior Kim Bentson (Brewster, N.Y.) had three hits, two RBIs and a stolen base.
 
Game One – Post 10, Chestnut Hill 1, F/5
Chestnut Hill got on the board first in game one. Giana Cavallo hit an infield single to first base. Mandi Rush drew a walk to put two on with two outs. Caitlin O'Neill doubled to left field to give the Griffins an early 1-0 advantage.
 
The Eagles took the lead in the bottom of the first inning. May hit a double to deep left center and later advanced to third on a passed ball. Sophomore Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) reached on a throwing error by the pitcher which allowed May to score. She advanced to third on two groundouts by Post. Senior Amy Mantha (Agawam, Mass.) drove in a run with a single to center field. Udris hit her first home run of the game to left field to give the Eagles a 4-1 lead after one inning.
 
Junior Ashley Cummings (Stafford, Va.) struck out the side in the second. Post added two more runs in the third inning. Udris launched her second homer of the game to centerfield to put the Eagles ahead 6-1.
 
Bonamassa singled to lead off the fourth inning and advanced to second on a flyout. Sophomore Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit a single up the middle to drive in another Eagles run. The Griffins didn't allow Udris a chance for her third home run as they intentionally walked her in her third at bat to put runners at first and second with two outs.
 
Bentson cleared the bases with a double to left field to put the Eagles ahead 9-1. Senior Samantha Pagano (Marlboro, N.Y.) singled down the left field line to bring home Bentson. Chestnut Hill stranded a runner at third in the fifth as Post took the five-inning victory.
 
Game 2 – Post 7, Chestnut Hill 1
Mantha, Udris, and Bentson hit concecutive singles to start the second inning, loading the bases with no outs. Senior Cassidie Ern (Hope Valley, R.I.) hit a sacrifice fly of right field to drive in the first Eagles run. May brought Udris home with a single. Bonamassa reached first on a throwing error by the Griffins third baseman as Bentson came home to put Post ahead 3-0.
 
Junior Johanna Rice (Glendale, N.Y.) struck out the side in the third. Rice finished with a season-high eight strikeouts on the day. DeMartino led off the third inning with her first home run of the season to give the Eagles a 4-0 advantage.
 
Post added two more runs in the fourth inning. May launched a home run to left center field for the fifth Eagles run. Bonamassa and sophomore Casey Sclafani (Brooklyn, N.Y.) hit back-to-back doubles to extend the advantage to 6-0.
 
Chestnut Hill got on the board in the fifth inning on a solo home run by Cassie Benson. The Eagles added another run in the sixth on a double by DeMartino. The Griffins went down in order in the seventh as Post took the 7-1 victory.
