Todd Blair (Ajax, Ontario) of the Post University baseball team notched his 100
th career hit, and the Eagles held on for a 5-4 win in a non-conference game against in-state rival Bridgeport at Harbor Yard on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore
Phil Sirois (Cheshire, Conn.) pitched six shutout innings of three-hit ball in the start.
Blair's lone hit of the day was a one-out single to right field in the seventh inning. Senior
James Wong (Brooklyn, N.Y.) paced the Eagles' offense with a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Sophomore
Jeff St. Pierre (Milford, Conn.) went 2-for-5 and extended his hit streak to four games.
Additionally, junior
Alexandre Beland (Trios-Riviere, Quebec) extended his hitting streak to eight games with a two-RBI double in the eighth inning, which proved to be the game-winning hit. Beland's streak matches the longest by any Post (12-24) player this season.
In the top of the eighth with Post trailing 4-3, Beland drove a two-out double into the gap in left center to drive in Wong and junior
Bobby Rodriguez (Carmel, N.Y.). Wong led off the frame with an infield single, and Rodriguez scored from first base on the play.
Sophomores
Nick Bologna (Wantagh, N.Y.) and
Steve Kimmelman (Riverhead, N.Y.) pitched perfect innings in the eighth and ninth respectively to preserve the win. The save was Kimmelman's first of the season.
The Eagles opened the scoring in the top of the fifth and grabbed a 3-0 lead. With two runners on, freshman
Taylor Carr (St. Thomas, Ontario) cleared the bases with a two-RBI triple to right center field. Carr's second three-base hit of the season was Post's 14 triple. Carr scored a single by Wong one batter later.
Bridgeport (9-15) grabbed a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh on a two-RBI single by Jesse Solar. Matt Nassi and Eric Schlitter also drove in runs for the Purple Knights.
Sophomore
Sean Sylvester (Berlin, Conn.) got the win for Post and moved to 1-2 on the season.
Post will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, when the Eagles host Nyack in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader. First pitch of the conference doubleheader is scheduled for noon at Municipal Stadium.
