CALDWELL, N.J. – Behind a season-high three home runs in the opener, including two by sophomore
Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.), the Post University softball team earned a split against second place Caldwell in a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchups at Caldwell Field on Wednesday. The Eagles won game one 6-2, and lost the finale 8-0 in five innings.
Senior
Amy Mantha (Agawam, Mass.) hit her second home run of the season in the opener. Junior
Lianna May (King Ferry, N.Y.) lengthened her hit streak to 10 straight games. She went 2-for-3 with a run scored in game one and 1-for-2 in game two.
Game One: Post 6, Caldwell 2
Post (11-27, 9-11 CACC) struck first in the top of the third and claimed a 2-0 lead. After May led off the frame with a single to center field, sophomore
Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) used a sacrifice bunt attempt and reached base on a Caldwell error. Both runs scored on the play.
The first two batters in the bottom of the third reached for Caldwell (28-9, 16-2 CACC). After a double to left field by Dia Cascone, Kristen Knorr leveled the score at 2-2 with a two-run home run to left field.
The Eagles took the lead for good on a one-out home run by Udris to right centerfield in the fourth.
Mantha led off the sixth with a solo shot to left field, while Udris drove her second home run of the game to center two batters later. Following Udris' homer, Post led 6-2.
Junior
Ashley Cummings (Stafford, Va.) improved to 5-11 in the circle for Post. She allowed seven hits, two earned runs and struck out three Cougars' batters in the complete game victory.
Game Two: Caldwell 8, Post 0 – 5 Innings
The Cougars scored in each of the first three innings of the second game. Caldwell used two solo home runs from Knorr and Alyssa Calderon.
Knorr increased the Caldwell lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the second with a one-out double down the left field line, which plated two runs. The Cougars tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the third to arrive at the 8-0 margin.
Post will continue a 12-game road trip at Wilmington on Saturday, April 14. First pitch of the CACC doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
