#25 Southern Connecticut Powers Past Post, 24-7

Eagles Score Six Runs In Fourth

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University baseball team was defeated by in-state rival #25 Southern Connecticut 24-7 in a non-conference game at Municipal Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles scored six runs in the fourth on RBIs from junior Bobby Rodriguez (Carmel, N.Y.), freshman Taylor Carr (St. Thomas, Ontario) and sophomore Jeff St. Pierre (Milford, Conn.).
 
The Owls blasted four home runs on the day, including a pair of grand slams. Southern Connecticut (20-10) plated 13 runs via the long ball.
 
Southern Connecticut scored the first 14 runs of the game in four innings. The Owls scored four times in the top of the first after a grand slam by Bryan Dorsey, while a three-run blast by Peter Testa and a two-run single by Kyle Cummings helped a seven-run second.
 
Post (10-19) used a six-run bottom of the fourth to cut its deficit to eight, 14-6. After junior Alexandre Beland (Trios-Rivere, Quebec) led off the inning with a double, he scored from second on an RBI single to center by Carr. The Eagles were able to load the bases after consecutive walks to junior Todd Blair (Ajax, Ontario) and senior Russell Sirko (Danbury, Conn.), Carr scored on a balk by Southern Connecticut starter Rocco Cundari.
 
St. Pierre plated Sirko on a ground out to second base. Two runs scored on a single to center field by Rodriguez, which drove in freshman Erik Rodriguez (Miami, Fla.) and a throwing error plated senior James Wong (Brooklyn, N.Y.) after the ball went out of play.
 
However, the Owls used a four-run fifth and a five-run sixth to push its lead to 23-6.
 
Sophomore Steve Kimmelman (Riverhead, N.Y.) fell to 0-4 with the loss. Classmate Sean Sylvester (Berlin, Conn.) pitched a perfect eighth inning out of the bullpen to run his scoreless streak to 9.1 innings
 
The Eagles will return to action on Thursday, April 12, when they host Bridgeport in a non-conference game. First pitch at Municipal Stadium is scheduled for 3 p.m. Admission to all Post baseball games is FREE and open to the public.
