CLERMONT, Fla. – The Post University softball team lost two games on Tuesday at the National Training Center Spring Games. The Eagles fell to #21 Tampa, 4-0, and to Bemidji State, 6-1. Sophomore Casey Sclafani (Brooklyn, N.Y.) went 3-for-6 at the plate. Post is now 1-5 this year.

Game One: #21 Tampa 4, Post 0
Post and #21 Tampa played scoreless softball for five innings. The Eagles had base runners in each of the first two innings. Sophomore Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) walked in the first and Sclafani singled to left in the second. She had the lone hit for Post in the contest.

After a single to right center by Kayleen Boatwright with one out in the top of the first, senior pitcher Johanna Rice (Glendale, N.Y.) retired 12 straight batters. Rice put the Spartan batters in order in the second, third and fourth innings.

Tampa broke the ice in the top of the sixth with one run. Centerfielder Kayla Lamphier got on base with a leadoff bunt single. After she advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, she advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored the eventual game-winning run.

The Eagles threatened in the bottom of the seventh on a pair of Tampa (17-3) errors, but could not plate a run.

Rice suffered her second loss of the season, after she allowed three runs in the seventh as well. She pitched a complete game, allowed six hits and struck out three.

Game Two: Bemidji State 6, Post 1
After the Beavers scored one run in the bottom of the first, Post leveled the score at 1-1 in the top of the third. Senior Samantha Pagano (Marlboro, N.Y.) and junior Lianna May (King Ferry, N.Y.) led the inning off with back-to-back singles. After the runners advanced to second and third, respectively on a Bonamassa ground out, Pagano scored from third on an RBI ground out by sophomore Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.).

After Bemidji State (5-4) took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third, the Beavers added four runs in their half of the fifth and sixth to reach the final score. In the sixth, Bemidji State got RBI doubles from Kelsey Saralampi and Courtney Loegering.

Despite eight strikeouts, junior Ashley Cummings (Stafford, Va.) suffered her third loss of the year for Post.

The Eagles will return to the diamond on Wednesday, March 7, in a doubleheader against Assumption. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1 p.m.
