CLERMONT, Fla. – The Post University softball team earned its first win of the season on Monday, after a 5-1 win over Urbana in the second game of the day. In the first game, the Eagles let a one-run lead get away in the seventh inning in a 7-4 loss to Cedarville. Post snapped a three-game losing streak with the win over Blue Knights.

Junior Lianna May (King Ferry, N.Y.) went 5-for-7 on the day with four runs scored and a stolen base. Sophomore Stephanie DeMartino (Staten Island, N.Y.) totaled four hits in eight at bats, including a three-hit game with two doubles against Urbana. She added three RBIs.

Game One – Cedarville 7, Post 4
Heading into the seventh inning, the Eagles held a 4-3 lead, but the Yellow Jackets scored four runs in the seventh to take the tilt. A two-RBI single by Jessica Palm keyed the winning frame for Cedarville.

With Cedarville leading 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Post fought back to tie the game. Three consecutive Eagles – sophomores Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.) and Rebecca Erb (Yardley, Pa.) and senior Kim Bentson (Brewster, N.Y.) – drove in runs. Udris and Bentson had singles and Erb used a bases loaded walk to help the Eagles tie the game.

Udris drove in her second run of the game in the sixth inning. She scored May in the sixth inning. May singled and advanced to second on a Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) sacrifice bunt. She stole third to get in position to score on the Udris single. The May run gave Post a 4-3 lead after six complete innings.

Senior Johanna Rice (Glendale, N.Y.) suffered the loss in the circle. Rice came out of the bullpen and pitched the final 1.2 innings, and she allowed the final four runs of the contest.

Game Two – Post 5, Urbana 1
Junior Ashley Cummings (Stafford, Va.) tossed a complete game eight-hitter and struck out four as she pitched Post to its first victory of the 2012 season. After she allowed a run in the first, Cummings set down the Blue Knights in order in two of the final six innings.

After Post (1-3) and Urbana each tallied a run in the first, the Eagles plated three runs in the fifth to pull ahead for good. Back-to-back doubles by Udris and DeMartino scored all three runs. Udris drove in sophomore Casey Sclafani (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and May, while Udris came around to score on DeMartino's two-base hit.

Senior Samantha Pagano (Marlboro, N.Y.) added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to secure the win.

The Eagles will play two games on Tuesday, March 6, against #24 University of Tampa and Bemidji State. Game times are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
