CLERMONT, Fla. –The Post University softball team was swept on the opening day of the National Training Center (NTC) Spring Games on Sunday. The Eagles dropped the first game of the day to West Virginia Wesleyan 8-0 in five innings, and lost to St. Rose 11-9 in the night cap.
 
Sophomore Brandi Davis (Magnolia, Del.) went 2-for-4 against St. Rose as the Eagles totaled nine hits in the matchup with the Golden Knights. Classmate Rebecca Erb (Yardley, Pa.) went 2-for-4 also and finished the game with four RBIs on a pair of singles in the third and fourth innings.
 
Game One – West Virginia Wesleyan 8, Post 0 (Five Innings)
The Bobcats jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings behind a five-run third inning. A two-RBI single by Kelli McCullough capped the frame for West Virginia Wesleyan.
 
In the game, Post mustered just two hits off the bats of seniors Cassidie Ern (Hope Valley, R.I.) and Kim Bentson (Brewster, N.Y.). Junior Ashley Cummings (Stafford, Va.) suffered the loss for the Eagles. Cummings worked 2.2 innings and allowed six runs, but just one earned run. She struck out four batters.
 
Game Two – St. Rose 11, Post 9
In the nightcap against St. Rose, the Golden Knights were up 6-0 after two innings of play. However, the Eagles totaled nine runs in the third and fourth innings. Post (0-2) plated seven runs in the fourth inning.
 
Erb drove in both runs in the third on a single that scored sophomore Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) and senior Amy Mantha (Agawam, Mass.).
 
Eleven batters went to the plate in the Post half of the fourth. Erb tallied two RBIs, and Mantha and sophomore Christine Udris (Levittown, Pa.) plated a run as well. At the end of the fourth, the Eagles held a 9-6 lead.
 
Over the final two innings, St. Rose scored four runs to take the game.
 
The Eagles continue their season-opening 10-game trip at the NTC Spring Games on Monday, March 5, against Cedarville and Urbana. First pitches are scheduled for 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. respectively.
