WATERBURY, Conn. – Powered by multi-RBI days from junior Lianna May (King Ferry, N.Y.), seniors Cassidie Ern (Hope Valley, R.I.) and Amy Mantha (Agawam, Mass.), and sophomores Casey Sclafani (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Christina Udris (Levittown, Pa.),the Post University softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader from Nyack on Tuesday at LaMoy Field. The Eagles won game one 10-7, and game two 8-0 in six innings. With the game two win, the Eagles earned their first shutout of the season.

May finished the day with four runs scored and two RBIs, Mantha crossed the plate three times and drove in four runs, and Sclafani totaled five RBIs, including a three-run triple that cleared the bases in game one, and two runs scored.

In the circle, Junior Ashley Cummings (Stafford, Va.) pitched the two-hit shutout in game two, and recorded three strikeouts with the win. Classmate Johanna Rice (Glendale, N.Y.) earned the game one win and improved to 4-9 this year. Cummings picked up her third win of the year in the nightcap.

Game One: Post 10, Nyack 7
With the Eagles behind 3-1 in the bottom of the third, Post (8-18, 6-4 CACC) scored five runs to take a 6-3 lead. After sophomore Jackie Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the inning off with a walk, she advanced to third on a fielding error by the second baseman during Stephanie DeMartino's (Staten Island, N.Y.) at bat. May plated Bonamassa with an RBI single through the right side. A Nyack error during Mantha's at bat loaded the bases for Sclafani. She drove a triple down the right field line to clear the bases, while the inning was capped on an RBI ground out by senior Cassidie Ern (Hope Valley, R.I.).

Nyack (1-19, 1-7 CACC) pulled to within one run, 6-5, in the top of the fifth. The inning was capped on an RBI single by Bethany Reed. However, the Eagles pushed its lead back to three in the bottom half of the inning on a run-scoring single by Mantha. Ern came around to score before the bottom of the fifth came to a close as well.

The Eagles added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the lead 10-6. DeMartino and May were driven in on a base hit by Mantha.

Game Two: Post 8, Nyack 0 – 6 innings
After Nyack left the bases loaded in the top of the first, the Eagles took advantage in their half of the inning. Post scored two runs on a bases loaded walk by May and a sacrifice fly by Mantha. The Eagles led 2-0 after the first innings.

Post pushed the lead to 5-0 in the third. Udris hit the first home run by a Post player at LaMoy Field. A one-out solo shot to left field gave the Eagles a 3-0 lead. Three straight batters reached with two outs. Back-to-back singles by May and Mantha set the table for a two-RBI double to right center by Sclafani.

With the lead at 6-0 in the sixth, consecutive RBI doubles by Udris and DeMartino helped Post gain an eight-run lead, and complete the shutout in six innings.

Cummings retired the final nine batters she faced and allowed just four base runners in the game.

Post will continue CACC play on Friday, March 30, at Felician. The Eagles will put their three-game win streak on the line. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
